in 4c's of diamond grading, each element is equally important.

Of the 4 c's -- CUT is KING! The amount a diamond sparkles or is a dud is based on cut. Color and clarity are tied for next in importance, IMHO. Carat wt is basically a subjective thing and also depends on what you want the diamond for -- pendant vs ring vs earrings, etc. Have you checked out pricescope.com??? There is a wealth of info over there on their boards, esp. Very interesting stuff!

Cut is most important. Then for clarity and color it depends on how sensitive your eyes are to color and inclusions (clarity). If you can, you should check out different diamonds and compare to decide what you like in person.

Pricescope is definitely a good resource for info.

For me, it's cut, clarity, color, size, in that order.

Agreed. DH and I compromised a bit in color but my stone is a VVS1, one step down from flawless. And you can definitely tell.

I just to have both...color and clarity. The cut is also important to me b/c of the way the light reflects. And of course, when it comes to carat size, the bigger the better.

Clarity. Definitely clarity. A diamond that doesn't have clarity will make any color look bad. Clarity is the key.

That's funny -- I'm the exact opposite.

Cut is the most important of the 4 c's, by far. Then color and clarity have to be evaluated and weighted in terms of the individual diamond. Then carat weight is the last consideration as far as I'm concerned. No matter what size you get, it needs to sparkle like mad!!

Between color and clarity, I think Color is more important because it is easier (for me at least) to spot yellowing in the stone. I would need a loop to see flaws (unless they are obvious). But color is easier to tell especially in certain lighting.

CUT is KING
Color next (esp if you have a larger stone)
Clarity (find something SUPREMELY eye clean which can be SI2 or better)
