I got a steel MM Tank Francaise recently, about 4 years old, excellent pre-loved condition.
After a few months, the watch just fell off my wrist while I was on a bicycle! One of the little "thingies" that hold together the band had just slipped out and boom - the watch hit the pavement!! I was shocked. ![]() I brought it in and it was fixed for free by my Cartier boutique. A few days ago, I wanted to adjust the date. The crown and the long thing going into the watch just fell out. I couldn't believe it. I've never had a watch that had such poor craftsmanship. ![]() ![]() Soooo I've taken it to Cartier AGAIN. They are sending it in and after about 10 days will tell me how much it will cost to repair it. Or if I need a full service. Which will probably set me back $1000, I don't know. I'm so mad right now! Did I get a bad one? Is that normal? I can't believe this poor quality. The lady said oh well it's already 4 or 5 years old. So? How long are they supposed to last? 6 years?

Wow - I'd really like to get one one day, so I hope you just got a "lemon" and that they're actually supposed to last! For that price they definitely should last for a looooong time (longer than 4-5 years!!).

Egads ! That is amazing..
Personally, I don't know very much about Cartier watches, but for Rolex, they must be serviced around every 5 years and the cost is around 500$ CAD, which is not a lot considering that the watch is automatic and there are a lot of parts to clean. 1000$ for a quartz watch seems kind of out there, I'd be interested if there any Cartier owners that can shed light on this ?

Hello,
I think you have the wrong end of the stick. All Cartier watches have a LIFETIME WARRANTY. Obviously this excludes wear and tear and accidental damage. HOWEVER - if the crown has come out.... That is not a serious problem. It can easily be fixed. However - if the watch needs a service... they will not repair unless you also have a service performed. Cartier is actually quite reasonable..... service costs are ok for a high end store..... Rolex is far more expensive (also due to all Rolex watches being automatic). I don't think there is such a thing as a "lemon watch" You just need to get the watch serviced. Probably around $350-400 I just had a Cartier Santo Moonphase watch serviced - it had a fault with the movement.... Cartier just charged the standard service price! Please let us know once you get it back! Rolex is so .... old school! CARTIER IS TIMELESS! |

I personally have 2 Cartier watches: Tank Americaine YG with Diamonds and Panther WG. Both watches are 14-20 yrs old and they work perfectly. I think it all depends how you baby them.

So sorry to hear.......I don't know if I would wear a Cartier watch bicycling. It would be one thing to wear to the office if all you do is type, etc. If it's "pre-loved," you don't know just how loved it was before you obtained, so as time goes on, you might experience more problems. Even though we treat them as jewelry, watches are machines which, in most cases, can't be banged around that much. For that there are more rugged timepieces. It's the craziest thing, but sometimes cheaper watches hold up better than $$$. A maddening thought. So good luck with the repairs.

I have 2 Cartier watches: 160-year special edition Tank Francaise (Quartz) and the Pasha (Automatic) and they both work fine. Sometimes the screw on the Pasha will come lose, but that doesn't happen often. I had the Pasha for over 6 years and had it services once. Had the Tank for almost 2 year and haven't had it serviced. I wear my watches everyday interchangeably (sometimes even when working out. I know shouldn't but always forget!). You should really complain to Cartier about your watch!

Thanks all!
![]() Cartier has given me an estimate of $390, they will do the service and fix the crown. I guess it needed a service after 5 years of daily wear. This watch is just so beautiful and timeless, I hope it'll be back soon!

Most of my watches are Cartier and I don't find you have to baby them.
You said your watch was "pre-loved" and I have to wonder what that person did to your watch. All this really shouldn't happen. |

Thanks all!
I got her back and she looks great, has been polished and everything. And I got a 1-year-warranty on the service/repair.
