Default buying watch From USA, I am in Canada
I am thinking buying a Michele watch at Jomashop.com and ship it to Canada, Will the Canada Border Services people charge me a heavy duty and tax when I pick up the parkage?
The watch is around USD$800, will the tax rate be 14%( I am in Toronto) ?how is the duty??
Anyone had the experience of buying watch from US?

Or where I can buy a Michele watch in Toronto?
Thx.

It may depend on how it's shipped. I buy jewelry from the US and through FedEx or UPS, I always pay duty. But ... that can also be a good thing for you if you travel and need to prove to Canada Customs that you paid the appropriate taxes. You'll have the receipt of duty paid to show them. GL!

A lot of businesses in the U.S. either don't ship to other countries or if they do they add taxes and duties to they price. Have you considered getting a mailbox somewhere near the border on the american side and then driving down to pick it up? It would probably only be beneficial if you shop online a lot but I've heard a lot of Canadians do that.

Getting a mailbox doesn't allow you to avoid duties and taxes. You still need to declare the item when you cross the border. It's only useful for items where the shipping charge is jacked up or if the seller/store doesn't ship outside the US.

Getting back to the OP - I've bought jewelry and watches outside of Canada before and was charged 8 or 9% duty, and GST and PST are applicable as well.

There also may be brokerage depending on the shipping method.

You can find Michele watches at Winners.. that might be another way to avoid buying cross border and also to save some money ?
