Hey all, I wanted to update this to keep everyone informed. I just recieved an item I ordered from Tiffany's online store (Tiffany.com)- so these are absolutely authentic materials. They have made some changes to thier packaging. The pouch (drawstring) is a tad lighter in color, a bit smaller, is stiffer than the previous suede pouches (I cannot tell if it is even suede, but def. NOT velvet!!) and it DOES have "pouch made in China" tag inside it. Padding inside box is a bit stiffer than before, and box is NOT square, but rectangularish, with writing across the LONG side, parallel to the SHORT side- very different! I will take pics and post for those who are interested. Something to keep in mind!

I am not familiar with seller, and not familiar enough with that brand to say. Maybe someone else here is, though.

Default Vintage Freshwater Pearl Authentication help
I really love reading all the informational threads about pearl jewelry, and I am starting a very low budget collection bit by bit. Eventually I may get some Freshadamas from Pearl Paradise, but first I like to see how much I actually wear this kind of thing. I also like to collect vintage jewelry.

I know it is hard to tell from the pictures, but can anyone tell me if these are really freshwater pearls, or faux pearls. Is the price reasonable?

Thanks in advance. : )

I am also a pearl collector, love them! I cannot, by pictures, tell you if they are freshwater or faux. Many sellers on Etsy (I do buy from there, Ebay, and Ruby Lane, etc.) seem not to be able to tell real from faux even with necklace in hand- I have ended up with more than one strand of high-end glass pearls that the seller assumed were real. That being said, freshwater pearls that do not carry high-end designer names are very affordable, so price is reasonable. Keep in mind that "heirloom" does not mean vintage. Most vintage freshwater pearl items are not as good quality as newer freshwater pearls, which in recent years can compete with akoya's and saltwater pearls in quality, and can surpass them in endurance. Ask the seller if they are returnable should they be faux pearls.

That link is not working for me (even cutting and pasting). The seller is very reputable, and I have bought from them myself, always authentic. I know which Tiffany pieces you are referring to, as I have both the heart and the disc toggle 10 chain sets. However, both sides should have 10 chains. It sounds like a chain has been lost/broken somewhere along the life of the piece, which does happen sometimes- the chains can get caught on things.

Looks good, though I would have liked to have seen the clasp.

No red flags, but I would need to see more closeups to give a good opinion.
