Please don't bash me ladies, because I do feel awkward confessing this.. But I do not feel comfortable wearing my diamond engagement ring ever since I lost my diamond promise ring that DF gave me a few years ago back when I was in high school. (I wrote about it here He lost my ring... (sad))
I know if I lose it, I can replace it. Insured and what not. But I want to keep that ring forever because it's so sentimental for me. At times I just wear whatever ring I feel like in place of my engagement ring when I go out, whether it be my simple white gold band (matches DFs white gold band I had gotten him in place of the diamond band I had gotten him when he got my promise ring), or one of my "travel/try out" CZ engagement ring. (I got these when trying out different styles of engagement rings to see which I liked, I now use them if I travel at times.) I do love my ring terrible, I love it to pieces, and I do feel bad because DF spent a lot on it (not like a million dollars, but a lot for us because we're still finishing up college!!) and I didn't want to hurt his feelings by not wearing it every single day. I'm thankful he's not hurt and that he understands. He even said he was touched I felt so strongly about it. Anyone else here not wear their an engagement ring at all?? Maybe go without any ring on their left ring finger?? Or maybe just a band in place of it?? (P.S. Please don't tell me I'm foolish for not wanting to wear my original engagement ring, I had my friend bad mouth me for 40 minutes because of this, but I personally feel scared to do so for the time being. I can't help this is how I feel.) |

I don't wear my engagement ring. I do wear my wedding band everyday. My hubby is ok with me not wearing the ring or the band.
Since your hubby understands, I would say don't be concern about what others say. It's really a personal thing between you and your DH.

lol I never wanted an engagement ring (I am a history major, let's just say I go by historical meanings, and I don't like the historical representation of engagement rings)... thus I todl my fiance NOT to get me one, and he's cool with it, we had spoken about it ealier and I told him that if he did get me one, I would never wear it, and he was okay with that because I would still 'have it' (althought I talked him out of getting me one lol)....anyways, my point, I think some men are okay jsut with the fact that you 'have' it, and that your loved one kow you do... so not wearing it at all, or all the time is okay....

I was pretty entranced by the sparkle of my e-ring, so I wore it every chance I got! Including to bed until I discovered that the diamond was loose & that i probably knocked it loose myself in my sleep. After that, i took it off to sleep.
I picked up some cheapie bands from afterthoughts/claires to wear to the beach bc i wanted to wear SOMETHING, but didn't dare wear my e-ring swimming & digging in the sand. now, I just wear my wedding band when i go to the beach or traveling. It's titanium & relatively inexpensive, so would be easily replaceable. |

Don't feel bad.....it's your ring and if don't want to wear it then you should not feel guilty at all! During the summer a lot of women don't wear their rings because the heat swells their fingers..........

I'm not sure I understand. Why exactly are you afraid of wearing it? Is it too big and you think it might fall off? Do you think the diamond will fall out?
According to your other thread, your SO lost your ring, not you. |

I don't think you're foolish for not wanting to wear it because you're afraid you'll lose it, but................
WHAT GOOD IS IT IF YOU DON'T WEAR IT????? Missie, enjoy your engagement! Wear your ring! Don't wear it fishing or swimming or gardening, but when you're working (in an office, not on an oil rig!), wear it! Wear it out to dinner. Wear it to the grocery store. This is a special time! Ideally, you'll only be engaged once, so show it off, girl!!! Watch it sparkle when you're in the car. Look down at it and think about how excited you are to be this man's wife! Lots of women don't wear their engagement rings very often after they're married. I do right now, but I doubt that I'll wear it often once we have kids. It sits up pretty high and might do some damage if it scratches a baby's cheek! Keep your insurance up to date and wear it!

i don't wear my engagement ring everyday. (married for almost 6 yrs) i'll wear either the wedding band by itself or i'll stack it with my an anniversary band. i have no reason for this except sometimes i just don't feel like wearing the ER. i'm a hardcore bling lover, but there are days i'd rather keep it simple.

You can do what you want, it's your ring. Do whatever you feel comfortable with.
But your fiance spent good money on that ring - to me, it would be a waste to let it sit in a safe! Might as well have put those thousands of dollars in the bank! |

In addition of DF losing my other ring, I've actually lost the ruby of my handed down by generations baby ring. I looked down and the ruby from my ring which was on my neck was gone.. My teacher (back then) found it because she was cleaning looking for it in the class, and gave up.. Til she saw the dust pan and decided to sift through it and she found the stone. I also have lost one diamond in my diamond ring my Dad had gotten me while shopping, and I lost many many pair of earrings. I dunno if it's because I'm always using my hands or what. I've got the worst luck ever. I'm not sure if I'm up to risking losing my engagement ring either.

Just have your prongs checked regularly (every 6 months should be plenty!), and you'll be fine!

. I definitely understand your concern but I think you should wear the ring . You're young and you need to enjoy that ring. I was like you at first but eventually got over it after I accidentally banged it in a wall corner. I totally freaked out but after carefully inspecting it and saw nothing wrong with it, I realized that these rings are made to last. It's only painful after that first scratch or whatnot. Trust me, I don't think you will lose it. Just don't wear it when you know you're going to have to take it off and run the risk of losing it out of your house. Otherwise, I think you should be fine .
