Talking Advice on my upgrade! Cushion with what setting?
Hubby agreed to purchase the stone and have it set but will leave at the safe till it's our 10 year anniversary. fine by me since I couldn't take my eyes from the stone anyways when I saw it.

We have a significantly large cushion cut stone that's almost 1 to 1.09 ration (fairly square but not exactly). How would you set it?

1) Tiffany Novo style where you leave your diamond just by itself?

OR

2) HW style where you have VERY VERY small round diamonds surround the solitaire diamond to give it more of a halo look?

THANKS FOR THE INPUT!

Do you mind stating what size the stone is? Depending on how large it is, I may prefer one setting over the other. Didn't you mention somewhere that you were looking at 5 carats? Correct me if I'm wrong.

It's a 5.37 carat cushion cut.

I'm a less is more person so I would leave it as a solitaire like the Novo personally rather than adding extra diamonds.

Haven't bought it yet-still trying to negotiate with Mark on pricing but he is SO firm. Hubby agreed on the stone and specs and he said the ultimate words after we saw it "As long as it makes you happy"...

so "as long as I can get some off" we will be purchasing it but it will take a few weeks to set it and probably sometime for us to get all the funds together..

OK, I found some reference pictures. The center stones are under 2 carats, but it should give everyone a good idea at the designs you're considering.

Right off the bat, I prefer the halo setting. I think it helps the ring look delicate and brings out the center stone. It's more feminine than the Tiffany style. With a large stone, I normally prefer a solitaire setting or something that doesn't take away from it, but the Tiffany Novo ring just doesn't speak to me.

Edit: I also included a picture of a celebrity ring that is a 5 carat cushion for reference on size. Looking at that, now I'm thinking halo might be a little over the top. I also found Ashley Simpson's 4 carat cushion in a halo.

Here are pics of a 2.64ct antique cushion in HW halo repro. I also have seen a 3 carat cushion in HW setting on pricescope, but that's about the largest I've seen in that particular setting. A halo will make the center stone appear MUCH larger!

Here's a ring (top) with a 5.43 carat cushion center and 1.80 carats of half moon diamond sides from Sasha Primak:

I'm not a big fan of solitaires, though I do think a stone like that would look great in a simple setting. Maybe if you chose some small, subtle pear-shaped diamonds or single baguettes to put next to the center stone. I don't like huge trillion diamonds that compete with the sparkle and blur the shape of the center diamond.

I think a halo on a stone that size is too much to be honest.

I'll see if I have any fun pics saved on my other computer to suggest.

Although I really love halos and am thinking of changing my setting to a halo, I think your stone would look better in a tiffany novo setting bc your stone is so large that it'll show it off nicely. But I don't think you can go wrong either way. It'll look stunning no matter what. I can't wait to see it!

Btw, what does HW stand for? Sorry, still learning...
