Default Advice on a new ring!
Please do not judge me on my low clarity decisions =)

So as you all know i found a great buy for a ring for 140 with the value of 700. Well i would like to upgrade my promise ring into something else, i tend to get bored with it and want something different every year. I figured this is a better obsession then buying purses because when i upgrade i get 100% of the value. I just have to double the band values.

Anyways i have 4 options.

1- (add 1400).85-.95 rnd/princess solitaire GH/Si2/i1 I don't mind the flaws.

2- (add 1200) 1.10-1.15 MN/i1 rnd solitaire- Its a big stone with a slight champagne/yellow tint to it

3- I wanted a halo but they only fit 1ct stones. Plus they do not have a halo i like.

4- Keep what i have

ALSO can someone please remind me which grading labs are bad and good?

IGI GIA EGL etc..

thanks!

GIA or AGS are reliable, EGA-USA isn't always reliable.

I think we'd need to know what you already have to decide

NEVER reliable, least reputable of all of them.

If it says I color, it could truly be a L-M color. . . .

Ditto. Are you upgrading at your jeweler's or open to other vendors? You might end up at the same place for a nicer stone if you considered other vendors too. I have a vague recollection of your normal place being Shane Co from when you posted on the ruby band?

Also, w/ upgrading your promise ring, will that be your e-ring too or another upgrade? If it was a second upgrade deal, I think I'd probably just wait and do it a that point.

I pick 4... I'd wait on it . If you're not 100% sure going into it.. I'd save the $$ and wait for that feeling.. of "I have to have that setting.. oh gawd.. thats beautiful.. etc"

I was kind of going through the same thing.... I just got married a little over a year ago.. and I wanted to upgrade my ring already... but wasn't really ready to part with it yet. On one hand.. I saw this Tacori emerald setting that always made my heart skip a beat.. and then there was the "should I just upgrade the stone... and have it made into a solitaire". Then I decided... why settle on either one of the other... I'll wait a couple years and get an upgrade to 1.5 to 2.. (my 1ct looks great on me now) plus add the setting on at the same time. So my vote would be to wait.. until you know for sure ;o) You won't regret it!

No its not my ering. Its more like a ring for me to wear. I decided that a promise ring really isnt ideal since i rather have something more fancier and anything bigger does look like a ering. I tend to just stare at my ring alot and i wish it was bigger/fancier. Also i wouldnt want to get a bigger/fancier ring and have it be way bigger then my promise ring hehe.

So IGI is worst of all?

Yes it will be at Shane Co. I noticed some of their stones are IGI cert.

I've decided to go for a .90-.95 G/H Si2 on a simple band. Shane Co diamonds are graded according to GIA. I called and confirmed. I'll show pictures once i get the ring picked out and made =)
