I guess its a personal choice. I think I would rather have the money saved towards an engagement ring. .19 is a very very small diamond.

I personally would want more bang for my buck. You guys are 20ish and this is just a promise ring... Why not look at local mall jewelry stores like Helzberg, Kays, Zales or even Gordons? I know Gordons and Zales does trade ups... What about birthstone rings? My "promise" ring from DH was a pink tourmaline and diamond ring, I still have it to this day and wear it as a right hand ring... Good luck deciding!!!

you should consider getting the cartier love ring as a promise ring. this way, when you do get engaged/married, you can wear it on your right hand or as a wedding band. my cousin did that before she and her husband got engaged and i loved it.

i think they cost like $1,000 without the stones though (the thicker ones), and the mini love ring i believe is just under $700. not sure. you can get the tiffany ring when you get engaged.

I've been wearing a .6 carat total weight ring for the last 4.5 years while my fiance saved up for a nicer ring (which is coming soon!!!!). I don't remember diamond clarity, but it was around $700 (which at the time, we both thought was a phenomenal amount of $$ -- we were around your age). 18k white gold. Here is a picture if that helps:

not the best picture of it:

We got it from Ice.com and it later went on sale for like, $580. the other ring is just jewelry (not a wedding band). Hope you're able to find one you love and think is worth the price

My pre-engagement (promise) ring was a heart-shaped blue topaz (<1ct) with two accent diamonds in a scalloped setting, a surprise from dh. I don't think it cost more than $200 at the time.

$1300 is a bit steep for .19ct diamond promise ring, even from Tiffany's. You can find a nicer price of maybe 1/3rd the price in the diamond district if you're already close to NYC

Or, if the brand name doesn't matter, what about a rolling ring? Cartier does a trinity ring like those. But, rollingring.com has the same style trinity rings for about 1/4 of the cost. I love trinity rings and that could be a wedding band too later, if you went with the thinner band version.
