Should I be embarassed?

A while ago, I bought these shoes from Unlisted, a brand by Kenneth Cole (I think). I loved it when I saw it online - but then I got them, they have red soles!!

My question is... if you saw someone walking down with that shoe, and you saw the red soles... would you THINK it was TRYING to be a CL-knock off?

Wow, that is a tough question. There is no getting around the fact that they are trying to knock off CL. But, you didn't know when you bought them. Of course other people might think that you were trying to pass them off for CLs, even though you aren't. You shouldn't really care what other people think, but I know where you are coming from. Personally I would send them back. I'm not a shoe snob (I have everything from KC and Nine west to CL and Manolo), but I wouldn't want to be caught in a knock off either. It's really hard because there are so many knock offs that you might buy a style and not even know that it has a designer doppelganger! This shoe is cute and if you can't send it back, maybe you could take it to a cobbler and have the sole painted black.

The red sole does make me wary, but other than that, the design isn't really a CL knockoff. Everyone makes peep toes. I agree with Chi town; if you're really worried, you can get the soles painted, but I don't think it's a big deal.

I agree. If you like them (and they ARE cute), but are worried about them looking like knock-offs, then take them to a cobbler and have the soles painted. Easy fix!

I think what I'll do is wear them, and pay extra close attention to how many stares I get. The kind that only CL stares get lol. Because really, they don't look like CLs from the design and stuff. And the quality I'm sure is not there hah. And it's not like CL invented/patented the red soles, but they are so well known for it that all other shoe makers can't pass that off w/o CL coming to mind.

He did?? Well, I don't know anything about CLs, I don't even own one.

^^ He definitely did trademark it. Too many places were copying it and knocking it off, especially the Oh Deer! brand shoes.

i see many girls in ny wearing shoes with red soles (that are not cls)

i can spot them a mile away and it seems cheap ..

Here in Italy I saw many shoes with red sole (but also fuchsia) and they aren't CL, just cheap shoes, so I think it's something common and not really under trademark. Anyway as you did this question to us it means it matters to you so you have to change them or you'll always wonder what people thinks about them, especially if you have other real CL!

I agree with what everyone else said. I think the style is different enough not to be a knock-off - unlike Oh Deer. I'm obsessed with Louboutins, but I love to buy all kinds of shoes, cheap or expensive. May sound weird for a fan of CLs: personally, I don't care whether another brand has red soles and I think shoes with logos plastered all over it are tacky, but if it bothers you, repaint.

I saw some KC with red soles and immediately wondered how they were able to use red soles, I thought it was TM by CL

Anyway the shoes were cute and I would have gotten them but they didn't have my size. I really dont care too much what people think, I liked the design of the shoe

I think I agree with most comments here - if it really does bother me, I'll paint it. I was looking for opinions of fellow shoe fanatics.

Now, I would never carry a knock off bag, or wear any knock offs knowingly because I don't promote it. But, if you're saying that just because the color is the same, and it's not CL, and that makes it "cheap".. I can't help to feel a bit offended. I don't have the money to spend on CLs like many fortunate people here, so I make do with what I can afford. I feel like with that comment, I should be concious of what other people think.

I think that while some may assume that anyone wearing red soles that are not CL is trying to pass them off as the real thing, most people don't care. I don't think you should worry so much about what other people think. Just because they assume something doesn't make it true.
