So I've been deciding between colors for a pair of leather boots, a warm chestnut brown and a black. I love the brown but I feel black will be much more useful.
Who has boots in brown, black or both, and what do you wear with them? What color denim or leggings? |

I have mostly black clothing so I don't wear brown boots that often. But there are definitely times when black boots just don't go with the outfit and I need a pair of brown boots. I think it's best to have both.

I am usually more drawn to brown and cognac-coloured boots, so I almost have to "make" myself buy black boots. However, black is a great neutral, whereas brown is a bit more earthy/goes better with colours.

This probably isn't much help but when I find a boot I really like I buy it in black and brown.

It really depends on the style of the boots for me.

I have a ton of black boots and only one pair of brown (they are more of an olive brown tone). Black is an easier color to match with my wardrobe.
It really depends on what kind of boots you own already. If you have a pair (or a few pairs) of black boot(s), go for the brown. |

It really depends on the style, what you have already in your shoe and clothes wardrobe, and what you plan on wearing it with.

I don't have any tall black boots at the moment... just a pair of spectator/oxford style black and creame booties, and a pair of mid calf pointed toe boots with a kitten heel that I wear under jeans or pants. |

I really only need one pair of heeled boots for now, this is what I'm deciding between:
http://www.stevemadden.com/item.aspx...est%20sellers| The two colors anyway. For what to wear with them, I suppose skinny jeans, black leggings and grey leggings. I'd want to get some more skinny jeans/leggings to wear with whatever I get, but I do want a pair that matches what I already have. It gets warm enough for skirts on quite a few days where I go to school in the winter, so I might be able to wear denim or plaid skirts with these? I really just want to know if anyone thinks grey or black can match brown or if denim will look alright in black? I have tall black uggs (need to be replaced, getting really old) and short chestnut ones, but I will be replacing one of them soon, probably one that is different in color from the boots. I'm so incredibly indecisive! |

Predictable for me: I like the brown ones better! I think you can wear grey with brown.

If you don't have a pair of black boots I would definitely go with black as they truly are a necessity. I first brought a pair of dark brown boots, which I love. But, I had to buy a pair of black ones because there are certain times when you just need black, eventhough brown is a neutral too.

I agree that everyone needs a pair of black boots. Overall, they are just more versatile for most people. However, I am usually drawn to whiskey colored boots and I tell myself stories about how I can wear them with black and how they will be more versatile than I think, etc. It isn't true, but I still adore my medium-brown colored boots! I think black sounds like it would be more versatile for what you want to wear them with, but after you have invested in a good pair of black boots, you should definitely buy a nice warm brown pair next year!
