From my experience, not necessarily. The materials may be of much better quality (i.e., softer leather) but workmanship is not that much better (if not sometimes worse). I had a pair of 3.5" YSL pumps where the heel actually snapped off - and that was the only time something like that ever happened. When I went back to have it repaired, the SA asked me how much I've been using them!! I think many designer shoes are designed to look great but not meant to withstand daily use. I agree with JuneHawk, they tend to last longer b/c we take much better care of them.

comfort-wise IMO the designer shoes are better.. My feet kill in cheap shoes.. so I'd rather buy one nice pair a season than 10 pairs of lesser quality.

On the flip side, they can also be more delicate.. I take great care not to wear certain shoes if it might rain or if I'll be walking on uneven places like cobblestone.

I don't have super high-end designer shoes.

But with shoes you are paying for a combination of quality and style. So $40 shoes IME are pretty much going to go to pieces pretty quick. At the high, high end you should be getting great quality with the style. But in between, it just depends. At $100 I have cute and uncomfortable flats with thinning rubber soles and I have sturdy and not so stylish Danskos. At $500 I have leather-soled Fryes that are great quality and cute but a fairly simple style, and I also just tried on a few pairs of OTK boots that look great and have an amazing fit but the sole/heel/where the leather attaches kinda looks like crap.

i guess

all I know is that my piggies can't deal with no fake leather. I need 100% authentic.

I am not sure about "designer" but I will say premium leather is the best...molds to your feet and endures for what seems like forever.

They're better quality than mass produced, high street shoes, but they are not more hardwearing - quite the reverse, in fact, as they are made from finer materials and usually have leather soles which wear very quickly.

Frankly, if you just want something to last for as long as possible, you're probably better off with mid-priced footwear, but if you want a beautiful pair of shoes for special occasions/mostly indoor use, they're very nice, of course.

To a degree, yes, but I don't think expensive shoes = great quality. In my experience, it's quite the opposite, and you're really just paying for a name. I have a pair of Jimmy Choo's whose sole fell off completely after three wears. I was so upset! Conversely, I have shoes fro, Steve Madden and Aldo that have lasted years of continuous wear.

I'm not sure about the comfort part. As a matter of fact, my most comfortable shoes were not expensive. I find my high end shoes to be more uncomfortable. Manolos for example are killers and Louboutins are not much better.

I agree the quality of the materials and workmanship is better, but some of the prices are crazy. I will only buy high end designer shoes on sale. Well...most of the time.

I agree. I have Ferragamo's and some Betsey Johnson shoes...they are so uncomfortable...and they were expensive. I still say that my $6 heels are one of the most comfotable & cutest pairs I own.

Generally, high end designer shoes are made with better quality materials and constructed better. If I compare the fit and comfort of some of my designers with that of some of my cheapies, there is a distinct difference.

The main difference doesnt just lie with the materials and construction, designers also price their shoes for the purpose of exclusiveness. You pay for the design, the materials and the label - the price is so that when youve gotten ready for that big party; you dont bump into a dozen other people wearing the exact same thing.

Designers are in a position where they can slap any old price tag they want on a pair of shoes and for them, the more intricate/distinct the design, the higher the price. Its not just the labour and materials it really is more about the design.

I don't want to argue wich designer shoes are comfy and which not, because that's not a matter of the desgner or quality but how your foot is shaped/built etc. . . .

But what is really true is that real shoe-brand shoes (yess, it don't has to be a high-end designer) are made from better materials and will last longer than discount brands . . .
