I love shearling boots, and I own Uggs. However, the shearling inside just isn't that thick or plush. I was at Macys looking at Emus this week and wasn't impressed with them, either.
Are there shearling boots from another brand where the fur is thicker and deeper? Has anyone tried any of the other brands, and how do you rate them against Uggs? I just keep thinking that for the price there must be something better. [I did a search and could not find a similar topic. Please forgive me or redirect me if there is already a discussion on this topic!] |

No one? Is it taboo to mention brands other than Uggs? No one has ever tried another brand? I see shearling boots from Kiwi, Minnetonka and other brands online - some equal in price to Uggs and some less - but I don't know if any of them are good. Do people stick with Uggs because despite the shearling being nowhere near as thick as it used to be, it is still the best? Like I said, I just think the quality has declined over the years and I would think that someone still has to make boots of the quality Uggs USED to be.

Last year, I bought a pair of Bear Paw from Famous Footwear for around 50$ and am still getting good use out of them. I recently purchased my first pair of uggs last month and have yet to wear them since I haven't sprayed the protecting stuff on it yet.
Here is a link to them: http://www.famousfootwear.com/produc...riant_id=71093 I have them in dark brown though. |

I love my Uggs. I don't really wear them anywhere except on quick weekend errands, but you can't beat them for comfort and warmth. I think you'll be really happy with the Ugg brand.

Koolaburra is another brand worth looking at - I got a pair of lavender and purple ones about 5 years ago in Perth Australia and am still wearing them (now as slippers!).
Celtic Sheepskin in the UK have various designs and LOTS of different colours - way more than Ugg and they are made in the UK rather than China! Anyone for Turquoise, red or purple for example! |

Thank you for the suggestions! I had not heard of Koolaburra or Celtic Sheepskin, and those look interesting. I had not heard of Bearpaw, either - cinderella388 do they seem like good quality? The price point is so much lower on those that I'm not sure what to think! Are the others overpriced, or are Bearpaw lower quality? Anyway, I appreciate the replies, and I will research some more!

Warmbats are pretty nice. The heel doesn't fall in like the Bearpaws.

or maybe I'm just crazy? haha. But really though, oh and the heels don't fall inward either and I have been wearing mine for a year now. I mean, maybe they weren't as full and thick as Uggs but they're pretty darn close! And you can't go wrong with the price either! I try to take care of both pairs as much as I can (like wiping off the dried salt residue with a wet towel and not stepping in giant puddles etc. just the little things count really.)

I can't really say about uggs but I bought minnetonka shearling boots and I love them. they have a better outsole (vibram) than uggs which looks a little more boot-like. they are super warm and comfy but can't comment on whether they are better than uggs.

I just bought a pair of Bearpaws, about a month ago. They're really close in quality and feel as the pairs of Uggs that I own. I bought mine from Amazon.com, for around $40. I did size up, because I had read that they run small. I'm very happy with them. Even the footbed comes out, so it can be changed, just like my Uggs.

Keen and The North Face. You can get both from Zappos. Keen boots are definitely warmer and have way superior traction over any Uggs. Uggs failed me this winter so many times already. I'm currently using Bogs, even these though made of neoprene and high density rubber, are warmer than my shearling-lined Uggs! I think Uggs quality deteriorated in recent years when they shifted their production to China and 100% natural shearling is no longer used instead you get a mix of synthetic and natural shearling which is why they aren't as warm anymore.
