Default Vodka as an Astringent?

Has anyone ever used vodka as an astringent.

I had heard this is a great alternative to expensive brands.... and now I am watching Mommie Dearest and Joan Crawford just used it.

Anyone know...? I imagine it would do wonders for the pores.

Theres the stuff from Lush Cosmetics thats called Ocean Salt, its a sea salt exfoliator that has vodka in it. To me it really burned and stung my face, which is normally what astringents do. So it might work? I just dont want to smell like an alcoholic walking around during the day ;P

Dont put the stuff on your face, its a waste. Drink it =]

I guess it would theoretically work, but it might be too harsh for the skin when it's undiluted. Maybe mix it with water until you have the right balance? Plus, the smell's really strong, and a simple face wash may not get rid of it.

I think buying a cheap drugstore astringent would be a better option than vodka.

I agree with the other gals. Vodka is way too acidic to use on skin.

But vodka is great for diluting essential oil to cologne or toilet water. It has a milder scent than rubbing alcohol.

Never apply cologne or toilet water directly to your skin, regardless of what product diluted the scent. Perfume is OK, though.

Have you ever seen older ladies with a light area of skin on their necks or wrists? Sort of like a light birthmark? That is almost always due to applying cologne or toilet water directly to the skin over several years. I spray mine on my hair.

I'd just get a regular astringent. Cheap vodka has so many impurities and extra chemicals in it (that's what makes for an evil hangover), and expensive vodka is....well, expensive, so I doubt it would save money.

LOL, one of my friends in Moscow and I had this discussion over the summer. Her family uses vodka for EVERYTHING! Their faces, cleaning their computers, they put it in a spray bottle for cleaning furniture-I was amazed at the list.

I wouldn't put straight vodka on your face. Too acidic. I do use that Ocean Salt face scrub that someone else mentioned. It's awesome!

If I want to sanitize my hands, it works well to kill bacteria. But I make sure I rinse it off then apply a good handcream. Not sure if I'd use it on my face though, and definitely not if you're using any strong exfoliating topicals. Ouch.
