Reading all of this has been such a help ti know im not alone!! I am 22 and have recently come off Yazmin contraceptive pill which I was taking for my ance, i have been on it for a few years but have stopped taking it as i wanted to give my body a rest and my bleed breaks whilst i was taking this pill were getting less and less, in the end just half a day of bleeding and it didnt seem right.

iv always suffered with acne and went on the pill at a young age to control very heavy painful periods, and also to help my skin. iv been on dianette a few times now and this was a mircale for my skin but i came off this one and moved to yazmin as dianette is very strong and its not recommended to stay on this for long periods of time. i also as a teenager to an antibiotic for my skin, i think it was called doxycycline.. i came off as this as long term can cause brittle bones and yellowing of the teeth!!

anyway so iv just stopped taking yazmin and for the first month and a half my skin stayed spot free and i thought i may be over acne. nope!! in the last month its progressively got worse, its mainly all on my chin - a mixture of painful cyctic acne and ***** spots, they keep coming up and take ages to heal. i have a few cystic ones coming up on my forehead now too, they really hurt but are stil under the skin. i know they'll come up and red soon :( it hurts to smile and no amount of make-up really covers them up.

iv been reading countless forums and online blogs and i do think i have a hormone imbalance. iv always had to wax and pluck my uper lip - but when i took the pill (because of the oestrogen) i didnt have to do this so much. Now im back to having to pluck random facial hairs out regularly and the hairs seem thicker and darker on my arms. I've also noticed that my breasts are about a cup smaller now than they were when I was 19. i know the pill affects this and im not on it anymore.. but from what iv been reading i think that i have a hormone in balance which is called "excess androgens" which is a male hormone. and i think this is causing my acne. does anyone know if you can just go and see your GP and get tested for this?? i would really like an indepth hormone check but i dont know how to go about it.

since coming off the pill i have had 2 periods, first one was on time and then the second was 3 weeks late. but both of them have just been one day of bleeding.

i just feel all over the place and what to know whats wrong its so frustrating!

iv had an internal scan before to look at my ovaries as for a while last year i had constant niggling pains for about a month.. it all looked healthy so those pains have gone as unexplaned. i still get them every now and then too..

sorry this is so long, would really appreciate hearing from ANYONE with similar problems, or any suggestions for anything iv written!!

xx

you want to go to an endocrinologist. He/she will run ALOT of blood tests and will be able to tell you if your androgens hormones are elevated and if that's the cause of your acne.

good luck!

I used to have horrible cystic acne in my mid to late 20's. Finally I found a WONDERFUL facial cleanser called ''Vichy Normaderm'' and it significantly reduced my acne to almost nil. I am almost 35 now and I still use this cleanser and I have very very few nodules now, like maybe two at any given time. I would give it a try!

When I was 43, my skin got really bad. I developed very painful eruptions below the skin each month. As soon as my skin cleared, I'd get a new round of painful boils. It was depressing and painful for months on end and people would notice these raw puss-spots running across my chin. I thought it was hormones and I was stuck with this...

When it started to extend to my nose, I decided to remove all sugar and sugar substitutes from my diet, cut way back on the processed food items. It worked. (I discovered Splenda was the culprit) I've been blemish-free, except for an occasional pimple during that time of the month.

I use an Clinique exfoliator and the Olay anti-aging cleanser in the pump and have been pleased with the overall look of my skin these days.

I am so glad I found this thread!

I am 22, and have been battling chin/jawline acne for 1.5 years. It is almost ridiculous to see my skin so clear in all areas EXCEPT my chin. I have not gone out without makeup for over a year. I was put on Ziana (antibiotic/retinoid gel) and in the course of 8 weeks made my acne even worse.

I don't want to get started on any pills/meds for fear that if I come off, the acne will just get worse. My chin is seriously covered with large painful blemishes, and is infected with cysts that will NOT go away. :(

I will definitely go try the Omega-3 supplements like you guys recommended!

well i'm 26 soon to be 27 and i get those from time to time, as well as a few pimples every so often...something i've learned to live with...mine usually appear on my cheek and i no more get one cleared up before another comes. I took antibotic for it once, cleared it up for a little while than i started getting them again...i gave up worrying it with after all these years. I just use makeup and wait for them to open up and heal...i go though breaks where i don't have any for a few months than i go though times where i get one every month for a few months.

Ok, so I developed this large zit on my chin about 3 days ago and I decided to try a natural remedy. Let me tell you a bit about myself first. I have never had acne issues till I turned 30. I have always been able to wear anything on my face and never broken out until now. I have been battling cystic acne mostly on my chin for about 3 years now. I have bought so many lotions and potions and nothing seems to zap those badboys at all. So I got desperate and used something that I use a lot in my cooking....Garlic. Yup. I figured, hey why not. I got a clove of garlic and cut it in half. Then I got a small cotton towel and wet it with very hot water. I put the towel on my zit and that allowed it to open up the pore. After I took the towel off I immediately rubbed the garlic over the zit.
Normally, these things take about a good week/week and a half to go away, and I noticed that it wasn't even swollen the next morning. I rubbed the garlic at night and left it that way over night then rinsed in the morning. I skipped a day and then did it again yesterday. As of now, the zit is almost non-existing.
Seriously, this is the best thing ever that has taken care of the cystic acne for me. Like some of the other posts state, I'm sure this is something internal that needs to be taken care of, but if it happens again, then this is a quick fix.

I was on 50mg-100mgs of spiro with Differin and had disappointing results.

I'm now taking 200mgs of spiro with Epiduo and it seems to be my winning combo!

Good luck!

iam 31 and have the same problems, big painful spots on my chin, it gets me down, I cant take birth control as my body doesn't like any of them it started about 6years ago when i tried the pill in the injection form, i didn't realise how ill that injection was making me, panic attacks cyst acne, dizzy spells, i finally came off it all the symptoms went other than the cysts on my chin :-(
i tried that dauc cream that worked quite well but ive run out of that now.. ive not had a chance to get to the dr's for some more, but i have been for the past 3 months now been taking evening primrose oil with starflower oil, its supposed to help balance your hormones, and ive noticed quite a bit of improvement, the cysts are not coming up so angry and i only seem to get them now about the time of ovulation but it has helped quite a bit, i also use a saliclic acid cleansing scrub morning n night with a oil free moisturiser...

I am interested to hear more about back pain & acne, tho i want to go to a chiropractor but i have no money at the mo, but i have suffered from back pain for about 7years now if not longer so if anyone has more info on this that would be great.

I'm 50 in a few months and still get cystic acne if I don't continue with my beauty regimen.

Mornings I use ProActiv. Evenings I wash with ProActiv cleanser, but use Differin Gel. I've been acne free for about 4 years!!

I have the EXACT problem as you but I am 31.

The ONLY thing that works is a highest dose of the antibiotic Solodyne and also spirolactane and blue light therapy treatments. I also use topical prescription retinols.

The minute I go off the antibiotics, I get cystic acne on my chin. It is 100% "hormonal" as they call it.

I obviously cannot be on antibiotics forever so I am doing the blue light therapy to "wean" me away from the antibiotics.......five treatments total and I have only done one so far.

The topicals..... retinols, differin, epiduo, etc do NOT work on cystic acne......period. These topicals are meant for whiteheads and black heads. The only way to treat cystic acne is from the inside out, meaning medication that you injest.

PLEASE do research.......as in a LOT of research on Accutane. It is not something to just jump into because you want to give it a shot at clearing up your skin. It is BAD stuff........just because you don't want kids does not mean it is safe at all. It has been linked to very serious and debilitating problems and disorders. I would never ever use it. Please do not let your doctor's staff tell you it is harmless as long as you don't want kids. I personally know two people that developed severe IBS from Accutane as well as a host of other problems.
