I'm an older woman. While my hair is still thick, a dark brunette with only a few silver streaks here and there, my lashes have become thin and very light.

Are there any products you know of that will help?

Also, for the first time ever in my life - I've had hay fever this spring which made it impossible to wear mascara. My eyes watered, it was just awful. The worst of it seems to be over - any recommendations for a non-irritating mascara, just in case?

Thanks in advance, ladies!

Many years ago, I swore by Jan Marini's and Revitalash. They really worked and didn't irritate my eyes or skin. However, the company that now makes Latisse (available by rx only) IIRC kind of forced those 2 companies to change their formula since they owned the patent and other legal mumbo jumbo. The later versions of Jan Marini and Revitalash no longer had the ingredient that actually made your lashes grow and become thicker. I got a rx for Latisse but it irritated my skin. The Latisse version comes with 60 very thick scratchy brushes to use for application. You are supposed to use one brush for each eye and then dispose. The teeny bottle is supposed to last only one month. It's worth trying but I suggest using a softer brush than what they give you.
Allergies are pretty severe this year for a lot of people, even some who've never had problems before. Maybe try the clear kind of mascara although it doesn't do very much but it's better than nothing. When my eyes are itchy, I use Clinique mascara, but otherwise I prefer other brands for more wow factor.

I use generic latiss. You can find it through oversees pharmacies with out a rx for like 11$!! I know it's controversial but I have been doing it this was for over a year with no issues.

we're all mad here.
Ardell make one that I swear has been making a difference for me. My lashes are already long and dark, but I wanted something to condition them since I tint and perm. Since using the Ardell stuff, they seem to be fuller and softer and I'm losing less. Bonus, it's not expensive at all.

I have used castor oil with great success...you could actually see new lashes growing in. I bought a high-quality oil from the health food store and applied to lashes nightly with disposable lash wands (from the beauty store). No side affects, no issues. I stopped after a while because I got lazy, but am happy to say my lashes still look better (as in, once I stopped it's not like the lashes fell out or anything). Latisse and prescription formulas scare me. This really worked and castor oil is usually an ingredient in lash serums. It also hydrates nicely when your lashes are dry from waterproof/drying mascaras.

Thanks! Will have to try this as a first line of defense.

I have used Jan Marini, Latisse, LiLash, and Revitalash. Jan Marini worked very well, but it was the original formulation that is no longer available. Latisse worked well, but requires a prescription. I have not been very impressed with Revitalash, but I have read that it is also a new formulation that has gotten mixed reviews. LiLash has been my favorite product and does not require a prescription.

I have been using the generic latiss from a overseas pharmacy for over 2 yrs and have had very good luck with it. My lashes curl up to my eyebrows.

You're welcome! If, however, you have any eye issues or easily get milia, castor oil wouldn't be good here. I'm sure you know that, but I just had to say so.

Mavala Double Lash is pretty good at stimulating growth. And, it's not expensive, either.
