Now I am unsure as to get this. Seems like the reviews are pretty bad. UGH I wanted to try it so bad too!
I don't think the formulations are that much different. but they just have a wider range of products to suit different skin types. but everyone's skin is different so it might work for u, it might not. best to get some samples.

yeah I went to my counter already to ask for samples and they wouldn't give me any!

So I have no idea how I can try it before buying the Nordstrom set.

First off, this product isn't meant to make your skin lighter- for that you need chemical treatments. It is however meant to make your complexion brighter.
I have used the cleanser, eye cream, moisturizer and softener. I have a bright and clear complexion and often receive compliments on my skin.
I would highly recommend you try, but remember that everyones skin is different so the best way is to try for yourself.

When I was a teenager I used the products and it was fine. Then I stopped using it until recently, I bought some to try and my skin reacted so badly to it! It turned red and itchy! I didn't give up yet, so I kept testing it until I figured, I shouldn't torture my face any longer. I use the oil sheets and those have been great! No problems there.

i've only used the brightening eye cream... it's pricey but it lightened up/brightened up my undereye dark circles a lot! i've now switched to Korres wild rose serum b/c it's a brightening face serum & you can also use it as eye cream - I like that it's double duty. I would purchase the Shiseido brightening eye cream again, maybe after I finish with the Korres serum.
