Default Hair toner help!

I had dark ash blonde highlights on top of medium ash brown hair (I naturally have black hair), and my stylist used a toner after my highlights to get all the orange/brassiness out and the color was fabulous. However, my hair has faded a little and my highlights are becoming an ugly yellow color. I was wondering if there's anywhere that I can buy the same kind of toner than my stylist used (the kind where you apply it to wet hair after you wash out the bleach from the highlights). I've searched the web and only found shampoo toners that deposit a little color at a time. Also, is a toner the same thing as demi-permanent hair color? TIA!

Yes you can get the toner, it's a color mixed with low volume developer. You can buy it on eBay since its for professional use only.

I've been getting toner treatments for the exact same reason (blonde highlights on naturally black hair) and I've found it relatively cheap to maintain. My colorist charges me $20 and I only need it about once a month. Does your stylist charge a lot?

My stylist always allows me to come in between visits so she can re-tone it. She doesn't charge me anything either.

BTW, I have naturally very dark hair (see avatar) and i've been flirting with the idea of doing exactly what you do to your hair. Any chance you'd post a before and/or after pic so I can see what it looks like??

Thanks everyone! I'm not sure how much my stylist charges, but I'm away at school and won't be able to go back for a few months, and I don't know any good salons around where I am.

ChristyR, the only two pics I took right after I got my hair done were taken with my camera phone so you can't see the highlights very well. After a few washes they lightened up to more of a dark blonde, which was what I asked for. I've attached them anyway so you can get an idea of the color (excuse the blurred out face, I wasn't looking too good that day lol). BTW this is the picture I showed my stylist when I was describing what I wanted, but I asked for it to be a little darker and it came out exactly the way I wanted.

go to the beauty supply store and get the "one 'n' only: shiny silver ultra" purple shampoo and conditioner. I use it twice a week to keep my hair from looking "brassy".

You can also try Natural Instincts Hair Color. It only deposits color, it doesn't lift it. It's also very gentle.

From what I understand toner is a demi-permanent color. I have the exact same problem as you - horrendous highlights done several years ago that I now constantly have to cover with toner. My stylist charges me a 100 $ for toner only and I think it is absolutely outrageous. I am essentially wondering the same thing if I can do it myself. I asked her which one she uses on me but she wouldn't tell me the color and says I can't do it at home myself anyways. I wonder if she is sincere or she is only saying it to milk more money out of me.

Hmmm, well I'm not a hair stylist, but it sounds to me like she's trying to pull a fast one on you.
