Default The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Anyone planning to watch the latest Mummy movie?

I've seen the previous two and enjoyed both, but I'm not sure yet if I'll go see this one...

The Mummy movies are my all-time guilty pleasures...even though I own the DVDs, for some reason, I can't wait them unless they are on TV. And, anytime I happen to see it on TV, I always stop to watch.

That being said, I'm not entirely sure I want to see this new one. The reason? Maria Bello. Something about her rubs me the wrong way, and it's upsetting that instead of writing her in as a new character, she has taken over the Evie role, replacing Rachel Weisz whom I love. I can't see her playing Evie at all.

I love the Mummy movies and am so excited for the new one. I didn't even know that they were making another! Unfortunately, the reviews have been less than kind...but I hardly ever agree with the critics anyway!

Yep I agree. Evie isn't the same anymore. She isn't that adorable, funny, strong and gorgeous woman she once was. It's just wrong on so many levels to completely change her physical appearance, character, and personality as a whole. I refuse to watch this movie purely because of that.

Some people will compare this female actress change to the Dark Knight. Yes, Maggie Gyllenhaal did in fact, replace Katie Holmes, but since both women look so much alike (Maggie, imo, looks like an older Katie Holmes in this movie), I didn't mind.

I liked the first Mummy, the second one was okay, but I hate this one. I just wish they let the series die after the second one. I have a feeling this movie won't do so well in the Box Office.

Poor Brendan.

With 3 teenage boys in the house, of course we will be seeing this! And I am looking forward to it as I am a sucker for special effects and Brendan Frazer...

I've only seen the first one and I liked it. I don't know if I going to see this one, though. I don't really like sequels a lot of the time.

I never care about or pay attention to what critics say.

That having been said, I REALLY want to see this movie, but I haven't even seen Batman yet. My BF BETTER TAKE ME SOON. He just said, "Not tomorrow. I want to go to the mall." SMH.

I am also disappointed that Rachael Weisz isn't in the third film. She was so central to the movies, but will watch Mummy III one day since I've seen the first two. First one was great but the second Mummy movie wasn't that good.

I am also disappointed that Rachel Weisz is not reprising her role. I wonder what happened. Does anyone know by any chance?

If anyone sees this movie, please post your review/opinions on here. I would like to know what you think b/c I'm still debating whether to see or skip this movie. Thanks!

We saw it yesterday. I liked it! It was exactly what I expected and the special effects are fantastic.

A friend told me that she read somewhere that Rachel had just had a baby and didn't want to take the baby to China. Also, she is now an Oscar winner, maybe she's outgrown the Mummy movies? Lastly, she didn't want to be portrayed as the mother of a grown son. Alex is about 21 in the movie.

We saw it yesterday, and I didn't like it. Brendan Fraser did not look old enough to have this adult son based on the sequence. Having someone else in Evelyn's role did not work for me. And I don't want to ruin the plot, so I'll just say that I was disappointed in how Jet Li's character was written.

To make myself feel better, I'm going to watch the first one today

Oh, we also saw the trailer for the second Scorpion King, way to milk the franchise!

I completely agree with everything you posted. That's weird, I have the DVD's too but I only watch the Mummy movies when they're on TV. They seem to show a lot! I think it's TBS? Anyhow, I never get tired of watching The Mummy 1 & 2 for some reason, although I definitely think the first was the best.

I also agree that I can't believe they just replaced Evie like that. I know it's said that it was Rachel Weisz who did not want to return as Evie, but I just can't get over the fact that they just full on replaced her with someone else. I don't feel that Maria Bello can even compare to the Evie played by Rachel Weisz. For that reason alone, I probably won't catch this new movie in theaters. I'll probably just wait 'til it comes out on DVD.
