Default Team USA -- Any Gymnastics Fans out There?

As a former competitive gymnast, as well as coach, I am VERY excited about this year's Olympic team.

The men became underdogs when the top gymnast, current Olympic AA champ Paul Hamm, was forced to withdraw a few weeks ago due to injury, and earlier this week, his twin brother Morgan was forced to pull out after an injury became too much to bear. The alternate who stepped in to take his place --Alexander "Sasha" Artemev -- outdid himself in the Men's Team Preliminaries and qualified for the Men's All Around finals as well as the Pommel Horse event -- not to mention, the entire US team was strong enough to earn a spot in the team finals Monday night!! Here is a guy who just a week ago, thought he was going to Beijing as a spectator!!!

The women are favorites going to tonight's preliminaries, but I think the Chinese women are going to give them a run for their money -- especially being on their "home turf." I do think we have a chance to have another US All Around champion -- both Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin are capable of bringing home the gold!!

Anybody else out there excited about the gymnastics events taking place this week?

I hear the girls had a hard day today... they qualified but we'll see. Gymnastics has been my fv from the beginning. I remember 1992 Barcelona was my first Olympics. There was Kim (long complex last name), Shannon Miller, Dominique Dawes... ahhh!

I was never a competitive gymnast, but I did take it for a few years when I was in elementary school. Gymnastics has always been my favorite part of the Summer Olympics!

artistic gymnastics is one of my favorite olympic sports! i've always enjoyed watching the Chinese women's team, especially on the bars and beam... they are excellent, but often inconsistent. i'm not sure who will win the team gold, but i wish them all the best of luck!

I've been watching all the qualifiers, and the US team is holding up despite their bad luck. Shawn Johnson is pretty amazing!!

Reminded me of good times, and I had to go to youtube to rewatch Svetlana Khorkina clips. She was my fav gymnast when she was still competing

I was a competitive gymnast too years ago. I love watching the teams, but can't believe I used to do some of that stuff! You wouldn't catch me doing any of those back flips on a beam anymore

After my gymnastic injury I moved into swimming and diving, I LOVE watching that!

I loved watching it. Of course, I'm rooting for Team USA, but I have to say that I LOVED watching the chinese girls on the uneven bars. WOW, one of the girls (sorry, dont' know names) was just unbelievable to watch! Even when she "missed", what she had done before that was just amazing. WOW.

I was never a gymnast. I was a ballet dancer growing up.

However many of the styles that gymnast use in their performance remind me of ballet in a way.

I am not aware of the specific American athletes, but I am rooting and watching the games

I don't know much about gymnastics, but I like watching the balance beam for the ladies and the pommel horse for the men's.

Omg that team was just amazing!! I loved it when Dominique Dawes would do 2 of her tumbling passes back to back on the floor exercise! The crowd would go nuts every time!
