It will be interesting to watch this season and the auditions that were on tv. The Boston audition was held down the street from where I work literally 5 doors down. haaha and I saw them filming it. And yes there were some weirdos that should never had tried out as well. haha.. Some of my dance friends and I snickered ... a contrast of people waiting outside in line and at night for call backs of weirdos who definitely can't dance, Boston Ballet school dancers and other real dancers waiting outside to try out.

Ha ha, everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame. Especially the weirdos!

Loved the top 15 routines. Too bad there weren't any group routines showcased, but alas, that can be saved for yet another special episode!

Also, Chris Brown sings on No Air. Given what's been going on with him lately, I don't think they would want to promote him at all.

I'm so happy they brought this back for fall and we dont have to wait an entire year for another season! I hope this becomes like Dancing with the Stars where they do two seasons/year! That would be great!

I wasn't as impressed with this first episode as I usually am. I mean I love this show but I didn't think they did a good job putting this together. I think I am used to having 2 hrs and 2 days of it which they can prob only show in the summer!

I wasn't impressed either - I kept finding myself distracted by different blogs & stuff online instead of how I'm usually glued to the auditions...

The tap battle was LAME (imho) I mean, then again, I'm a life long tap dancer (I even took the senior high advanced tap last year! and I'm 27!) and the steps the girl was doing were pretty basic.... and pretty slow.... like her head was trying to get her feet to move faster but she just didn't have the coordination or something....

And the dude who was paying homage to all those old dancers (Fred & Ginger, etc) reminded me of how I look when I'm dancing around while cleaning the house.....

ehh, it's still my favorite show so it will get another chance.

Interesting!! What do you think about Ryan's artsy audition? Out of the three, I liked the "feel" (sorry lack of dance vocabulary) of it the most, but have no idea whether it's some advanced stuff or not or that I was too distracted by the fluff.

^^ You know, I enjoyed Ryan's audition because it was so much different. He really went out on a limb and I thought it was cool. However, I'm not sure if it will appeal to mainstream SYTYCD viewers, ya know? And I'm wondering how he would do with other genres. He's REALLY good at what he has going -- but he might surprise me!

Ryan's style I've seen that before it's poetic dance which you see with hip hop too more so in NYC or on the West Coast like LA/SF. I think this year even more so they are going to have to step it up with the dancers versatility with both personality and technique. I'm tired of Nigel going on and on about personality. Yes that is very important in this type of competition to get the audience to connect with you in order to pick up the phone but you need dancers with real technique too. I want them to bring in some new choreographers too like Justin Giles, bring back Brian for more stuff but contemporary, Misha Gabriel and Kenny Wormald for the hip hop stuff. The issue is if dancers/choreographers are under contract with anyone else or for a tour they can't do the show which limits the different choreographers they may be able to have on the show. I was happy to see Stacey Tookey since she has really come a long way with her choreography. Mia of course is brilliant! And Tyce has really choreographed a variety of stuff. Wade is great and I like that he brings something really different and outside of the box that mainstream America isn't used to. It's important to take risks but sometimes it can be too much for mainstream America to understand. Complexions Dance Company definitely needs to return and it would be nice to see a piece by the Joffrey Ballet to perform.

I DVR'ed the premiere and watched it last night. So far, I like Ryan and his friend from Fosse, the salsa dancer who infused hip hop in her routine, and the girl whose mom worked 3 jobs to support her dance lessons.

I don't know that I really "get" tap dancing although I appreciate it for its distinctiveness. Like others have said, I hope the tap dancers do well in the other genres as well.
