Saw the movie yesterday afternoon and it was enjoyable. Lots of great songs and TC was not as irritating as I usually find him. He sang pretty well. The soundtrack is definitely the best part of the movie but I do not think anyone goes to see it for the storyline.

The weird thing was that there was a large group of women in the 70s in my showing. I never would have thought that this was a movie that would appeal to that age group

I saw this on Broadway when in NY last May; it was really good. I doubt I will see the movie.

Fun, silly move. Notable: Tom Cruise completely inhabit his characters. He sells it to the nth degree. Sadly, the two leads had very little chemistry other than being pretty.

Well this was an era of music that spanned 20- 30 years ago. They were in their 40's, 50's or even 30's enjoying the music. I can see this movie appealing to anyone who lived in the 80's.

Saw the movie last night and I was pleasantly surprised! My mom and sister weren't too thrilled about it, but I thought it was a fun movie and of course, the music is awesome! I didn't mind Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx. I thought he did a decent job.

The play was definitely better, but I thought they did a good job on the movie adaptation!

Prefer Broadway to the film. Tom,Alec,Russel, and Giamatti were great in it. I know Julianne is "dating" Seacrest but geeze, they need to stop trying to make her happen. Her voice just got more and more chippette as the movie went on...Aside from her it was a fun movie.

Well...I'm not in my 70's (I'm 61) but I may go to see it. Saw it on Broadway and loved it! I'll probably be disappointed in the movie, but I loved the music! I was in my 30's during the 80's...why on earth would you be surprised that we listened to that music?

i just heard the soundtrack of the movie and they are great!!!
especially love the "anyway you want it" as it is one of my fave song ever
and also love the we built the city/we're not gonna take it by russel brand and catherine zeta jones
can't wait to see the movie but so far from the music i think it's gonna be a fun musical for me, such a refreshing from "glee" which gets boring and more boring to me now

My mom is 64 and she said none of her friends were even remotely interested in the movie.

Also I read that the studio said their target demographic was males 18-40 and that was the lowest amount who bought tickets. They said they were specifically targeting those who were teens in the 80s. They said " baby boomers were the ones telling their children to turn that garbage down during the lost decade that was the 1980′s" and did not expect a strong turnout from them.

I saw it Friday and loved it.

Now with that said, I did wonder at the theater if we was too niche though. I graduated in 1985, so it was like the movie was tailor made for me.

Bumping this thread...FINALLY saw this on On Demand. Silly me, I had no idea this was a musical-style movie. Hard to explain, but while I love music, I can't stand musicals...it's just so weird when people spontaneously burst into choreography and song.

BUT...of course I LOVED the soundtrack...I'm 45 and the 80s were a total coming of age era for me. Story was a little silly but the cast was great and TC NAILED Stacey Jaxx. Who knew the dude could sing?

i don't like sherrie though, i find her voice is so annoying.
catherine zeta jones also amazing, i find the angry mothers choreography is hillarious, love it so much

I'm SO with you! I usually HATE musicals, but because I'm 56 and the music appealed to me, and I love TC I went to see it. LOVED IT!!! I will be buying the DVD when it comes out. I laughed so hard, especially at Russell Brand's character. I thought TC NAILED his character to a tee, and wow, can he sing.
