I've loved this show from the start.. I've always been a fan of the 50's and 60's era so I immediately wanted to watch this when it first began airing, just for the costumes alone. (Betty's polka-dot party dress in the 2nd season is something I'd love to have hanging in my closet.) I haven't watched the season premiere yet but it's on my Tivo so I'm excited to see it.
I loved that Duck didn't know about Don not having a contract. Very much looking forward to seeing how this conflict will play out.

Exactly...when he was whining to his wife about the promotion, he never once mentioned the industry, customer service or creativity. It was about him, his image, and his "power". It seems as if the upper execs know of this, and his kiss assing, and are trying to use this to get him out.

I also love the fact that Duck Phillips was blind-sided by Don's lack of contract. I disliked Duck virtually from the beginning, but that feeling really intensified when he abandoned his dog onto the NYC streets. In my world, you don't mess with the animals.

Cedes, I also love the aesthetics of the show!! The clothing is amazing for the most part...Betty's costumes are something I also look forward to, and I also think that Joan is drop-dead gorgeous.

Pete did show one flash of creativity over the Kennedy/Nixon radio ads. I guess Cooper sees a little of himself in Pete.
Zero loyalty, willing to abandon anyone for success. Duck liked how Pete was willing to exploit his fathers death in order to land American Airlines as a client. It's the Rockefeller/Triple H complex. Willing to do anything for success. No more sympathy trips, Pete needs to establish himself as the clear cut heel of the show

Agree on all counts...like Peggy's character and find her interesting. |

Perhaps she had a bad day. I know when I missed my flight home and had to sleep on the floor in JFK, I certainly wasn't in a chipper mood on my 7am flight home.

If I'm not mistaken, the assumption by everyone who knew or knew of Pete was that his family was quite wealthy and it wasn't revealed until the Flight 1 episode that his father had run them into the ground? My guess would be that he got the job and has come as far as he has on the coattails of his father's success, or by use of his last name. When he brought in his father-in-law's ad that also added to his worth. I was quite surprised he wasn't fired when he lost the account over personal reasons, though. I'm hoping Colin Hanks will be back on this season.. I liked the dynamic he and Peggy had going, even though it was quite painful. |
