Jun Ji-hyun to Represent True Religion's New Line

Star actress Jun Ji-hyun has joined hands with a premium jean label in the United States, which will release 12 differently designed jeans under her name.

"Jun Ji-hyun and True Religion released 'Gianna by True Religion,'" announced a representative from Jun Ji- hyun's agency, Sidus HQ. "'Gianna' is Jun Ji-hyun's English name and this will be the first 'star line' executed by True Religion."

The representative explained that "True Religion is sold in over 50 nations including the U.S.A., Canada, Australia, and in Europe. It is known to be a favorite label amongst Hollywood stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, and model Heidi Klum."

The SidusHQ agency went on to say that Jun Ji-hyun met with Jeff Lubell, founder of True Religion, several times in order to discuss design, development, and accessories for the Gianna line.

The 'Gianna by True Religion' line will also be newly launched in China starting 2009.

Shin Ha-gyun to Join Director Park Chan-wook



Talented actor Shin Ha-gyun will join famed director Park Chan-wook and fellow actor Song Kang-ho for the film “The Bat.” This is Shin’s first movie with Park and Song since “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance” in 2002.

“The Bat” is a tragic melodrama about how a man who turned into a vampire after an accident falls in love with a married woman. Song will play the man who becomes a vampire. Kim Ok-bin has already been cast as the female lead Tae-joo and Shin’s role is of Tae-joo’s husband Kang-woo.

Now that all main parts have been cast, the filming of “The Bat” is expected to begin in early April.

Moon Geun-young to Help Build a Library in Australia



Korea’s favorite girl-next-door Moon Geun-young is showing her generosity by building a Korean library for young Korean expatriates in Australia. The actress is going to support the library construction by helping out with the cost and donating books.

A source at Moon’s agency Namoo Actors says that Moon has been donating books with her own money since 2006, when she saw during a visit to her relative in Australia how young Korean students there didn’t have enough books or places to learn Korean. She will work with the Linfield Korean School in Sydney to build a permanent Korean library.

Moon has been cast in the leading role of Shin Yun-bok, a famed painter from the late Joseon Dynasty, in a new TV drama titled “Painter of the Wind” to be aired in September.

Choi Min-soo to Co-star with Robert De Niro



Korean actor Choi Min-soo known for his charismatic personality is to co-star with world-famous Rober De Niro and Andy Garcia in a blockbuster titled “Street of Dreams.”

“Street of Dreams” is based on the true story about the first Asian-American mobster Montana Joe in the 1960s New York. Choi is to play the role of Montana Joe’s Korean friend Eddie. No one has been cast in the starring role of Montana Joe yet, but the production team plans to hold a worldwide audition to choose an actor of Japanese descent with the caliber and aura matching those of De Niro and Garcia. The script is written by Roger Towne who wrote award-winning “Chinatown” in 1975. It will be produced by Fred Roos, famous for “The Godfather: Part II” and “The Godfather: Part III.”

“Street of Dreams” is a 40 million dollar co-production between U.S.-based FR Productions, Korea’s Hyun Jin Cinema, and Japan’s Wides Japan. Hyun Jin Cinema announced that the filming is to start this winter and the movie will be released worldwide in summer of 2009.

"Sonata" tunes up animated version

SEOUL -- Pan-Asian hit TV drama "Winter Sonata" (2002), from South Korea, will be remade in animated form, with star Bae Yong-joon dubbing the voice of the character that made him famous.

Co-produced by South Korea's Key East, in which Bae is a major shareholder, and Japan's Total Promotion, the animated project will be produced both as a 26-part TV series and as a theatrical feature. Both will be targeted at the entire Asian market, given the widespread appeal of the original TV drama.

Bae, one of the Korean Wave stars of the mid-2000s, is particularly popular in Japan, where the drama was broadcast to wide acclaim on NHK. He most recently appeared in the $46 million TV drama "Taewang-sasingi" (The Legend), which proved a hit both locally and in Japan.

Lee Dong-wook, "Couple with Lee Da-hae? Only the wish of fans"



Lee Dong-wook, awaiting his comeback drama in May, commented about the rumored relationship with Lee Da-hae.

Around mid-last month, fans, nicknamed the 'Netizen Investigation Team', commented that Lee Dong-wook had the same hat and cellphone chain as Lee Da-hae. They put up pictures that showed their picture in a frame at his home. They suspected that they were dating.

Lee Dong-wook replied, "The frame and the hat were all presents from fans. Presents especially for Southeast Asia are for couples. I think they like the couple look. We have separate fan meetings, but they give us presents together. Even with frames, they put in pictures of us together. He laughed and said, "I think fans want us to date". He said this because when the rumors went public, fans encouraged their dating.

The reason why Lee Dong-wook took this with calmness was because of his thanks to his fans, who continue to show love for his drama, "My Girl". He said, "It's already been two years since the drama ended. Through "My Girl", I earned more fans and I'm known overseas". Lee Dong-wook and Lee Da-hae received a lot of support from fans as the main characters of "My Girl", which ended 2006.

While filming his new drama, MBC "A Bittersweet Life", in Japan, he experienced the advantages of the popularity of "My Girl". He said "Recently, I went to Japan to film, and "My Girl" was airing there, so I didn't have to worry about hot packs. It was snowing a lot and I fought against the cold, but I was able to stay warm with the hot packs that Japanese fans gave me. I needed about 30 hot packs a day, but after I came back from filming for 22 days, I had about 100 left".

Korean actor Choi Min-soo will co-star with Hollywood stars Robert De Niro and Andy Garcia in the film "Street of Dreams," Korea’s Yonhap news reported Tuesday (March 18).

"Street of Dreams" is a 40 billion won co-production between U.S.-based FR Productions, Korea’s Hyun Jin Cinema and Japan’s Wides Japan. The film will be produced by Fred Roos, the producer of “The Godfather: Part II" and "The Godfather: Part III."

Hyun Jin Cinema has produced Korean films such as "Holiday" and "My Wife is a Gangster 3." Wides Japan has previously made "Deep Love" and "26 Years Diary" that showed the story of a Korean-Japanese man who sacrificed his life to save a Japanese passenger in the subway.

"Street of Dreams" is based on the true story of Montana Joe, a legendary Japanese-American gangster in the 1960s in the United States. Choi will play the role of Montana’s Korean friend, Eddie. This will be Choi’s first Hollywood movie.

According to FR Productions, De Niro has been cast as an Italian mafia leader. De Niro, who has won two Academy Awards, is known for remarkable performances in "The Godfather Part II," "Taxi Driver" and "The Untouchables." Garcia, who also appeared in "The Untouchables," "The Godfather: Part III" and the "Ocean’s" series, will also play a mafia boss against De Niro.

So far, however, no actor has been cast in the leading role of Montana. Large-scale auditions are scheduled for the role in April and May in Japan.

Raymond De Felitta, who was nominated for an Academy Award for a live-action short film "Bronx Cheer," will direct the film. Roger Towne, who won an Academy Award for "Chinatown" in 1975, wrote the script. "Street of Dreams" is slated for release in 2009.

Singer Youn Ha Will Star in Japanese Film

Singer Youn Ha

Singer Youn Ha will appear as the heroine of a Japanese movie opposite one of Japan's biggest stars, her local management agency Stam Entertainment announced Thursday. The 19-year-old will star in "Gondono Nitsuyobi'' (This Sunday), a human drama directed by Genmochi Satoki.

Youn Ha had previously appeared in a Japanese short film in 2005, but this will be her first commercial feature. She will play the role of a Korean student studying in Japan who, while juggling various part-time jobs, becomes involved with a mysterious man.

The singer will act opposite Somegoro Ichikawa, 35, a renowned Kabuki movie star in Japan. He is famous for being cast at age 14 as the youngest ever Hamlet for a theatrical production of the Shakespearean play. Here, Ichikawa is known through the films "Welcome Mr. McDonald'' and "April Story.''

"Youn Ha went through vigorous training because Japanese films require performing subtle emotions,'' said Stam Entertainment. "She is particularly focusing on portraying the coming-of-age aspect of the film. She will be delivering lines in both Korean and Japanese.''

"It's a story about two people communicating and sharing perspectives, overcoming national, generational and gender differences,'' the director was quoted as saying, according to Yonhap News. "The film depicts humanity through humorous situations, times of woe and warm friendships.''

The film is currently going into production in Nagano, Japan. The cast and crew plan to move the shooting location to Korea at the end of the month.
