Jason Mesnick is the New ‘Bachelor’

The Bachelorette’s DeAnna Pappas rejected Jason Mesnick’s proposal last season, as he dropped to one knee to profess his love. Now he’ll get another shot at love when The Bachelor returns in January 2009 (it’s 13th season). Here’s what we know:

– Jason is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, moved to Washington at the age of eight and received his BA in psychology at the University of Washington
– Single father from Seattle with a three-year-old son, Ty
– He divorced two years ago but wants to start another family
– He’s the middle son in a family of three boys and lives with his younger brother, Larry, and with Ty.
– Jason is an account executive in estate and legacy planning,
– He loves a variety of sports, including swimming, golf, basketball and football.
– In his spare time, he takes guitar and swing dance lessons.
– Jason is a “big brother” for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America. A philanthropist himself, he hopes to some day form and run his own children’s charity.

This is very exciting news, thanks for posting this! I've been wondering who would be next. I'm VERY glad that out of the two "runner's up": it's JASON and not JEREMY. I thought jason was very genuine and awesome.

I hope that this time they also have some women who already have a kid or two as well. If they don't, I think it's very hypocritical. Did ya'll ever notice that almost NONE of the women have kids or previous marriages? Not realistic, imho.

That's what I told DH at the end of last season. Jason should be The Bchelor and all the women should have children.

awwwww jason! good for him. so sad when he was rejected last season. he seems so genuine and honest.

I'm a little torn about this. Jason's good looking and seems like such a nice, genuine guy. From what I've seen of him on TV, I kinda like him, but I don't think it's such a gd idea for him to be the Bachelor.
And though Ty is such a cutie and seems like an awesome kid, I hope they don't show jason introducing the ladies to him- doesn't seem like a gd idea to expose him to so many of his girlfriends.

I KNEW IT! I have to say to the others, who in the Bachelorette forum said he would never be the next bachelor, I TOLD YOU SO. So glad to get that off my chest.

The runner up to the runner up gets his own show? He seems like a very nice fellow, but I would have prefered they used someone different. No offense in any way to Jason and I hope he finds happiness.

Why do they always have that blurb about "Do you know someone who should be the next Bachelor/Bachelorette?" when they have been mostly selecting people from previous editions.

I absolutely love Jason, but I too wish he could find his new love in some normal fashion and not on the show. I'm also afraid of how this might affect his son.

The success rate on these shows is abysmal.

^^ITA^^ but we just keep watching, don't we!! I liked Jason, not Jeremy, so I am happy. I am from the Cleveland area. I didn't realize that Jason was from here too, as was Jessie. They probably grew up less than 30 minutes away from each other.

I don't think he will be away from his son for too long. They could film it in his home state first of all....and I think that it's a long time to us because they stretch it out over so many weeks....but it may not be that long to film it.

I liked him. He seems like a sweet guy and I think his little boy is a bonus.
