Default Disney's Newest Princess - A Peek!

Okay, I have to admit that I'm really looking forward to the release of this movie. I have mixed feelings about the Disney universe, but I really want to like this movie. I think at one time there was a thread about this movie, but as the search is down...

A clip:

As you all may or may not know, Dreamgirl Anika Noni Rose is supplying the voice for the Princess.

I've read a LOT of comments on the Internet about this trailer, very mixed reviews! What do you guys think?

Looks like its going to be really cute! Seems like there might be a few jokes maybe adults will get, but not kids, KWIM? That seems to be the norm nowadays for kid movies, I like it, keeps it interesting for everyone watching!

Actually, I think it was worse when I was a kid, and even worse before that. People get really pissy about that kinda thing, so you really see less of that nowadays.

Like in past cartoons, you would see the cat smoking 10 cigs at a time, or getting drunk, or little jokes here and there that no kid would get. But if that happened nowadays, soccer moms will be petitioning a ban against it, hardcore.

I really hope Disney does not stereotype this character and give her a mom and not a dad. All Disney movies have the mom gone or passed away so lets hope they stay true to this. For those who read this and go what the heck is she talking about it's because this is the FIRST black princess they have ever had and it's set in New Orleans which is mostly black(I'm from Louisiana) and I kinda find that to be racist. So I'm hoping that they don't try and have the character have a mother instead of a father because that would be racist by saying hey look there is no dad.
Ok sorry for the rant I'm done now.

I got a chance to see a much longer trailer for this movie in LA last week at Disney/ABC - I cried. I loved it. As a Black woman, growing up watching Cindarella, Snowwhite, et al, I just couldn't understand why there weren't any fairytales with people that looked like me.

I hope all young girls (and big ones, too) get to watch this movie. The story line is great, the artist renderings are something to behold. I mostly loved her hair - all those big curls.

I can't see the trailer, but I'm excited to see a little diversity in the Disney Princess lineup. It makes me so sad to see all the Princess merchandise and they're all white. Every once in a while you'll see Jasmine, Pocahontas or Mulan but not as much as the other ones.

I am looking forward to this too. I think it is a long time coming, but disney has finally chose the perfect time for this movie. I cannot wait until this movie comes out! I'm so excited. I hope they stay away from stereotypes as well. I think people will definitely watch this movie closely.

If you're really interested I could PM you. Otherwise I think I should steer clear of typing anything, as we're not supposed to talk "politics" here, and I think that if I mention certain things about old Walt Disney himself, or about the history that Disney has with its alleged portrayal of certain types of people, it will change the tone of this thread.

So I won't go there.

Okay, and I've read LOTS of complaints about the firefly, but I read the complaints first, then when I finally saw the teaser I died laughing. To me the thing is hilarious, but I have a weird sense of humor, too.
