The fact that Tano has it's own subforum says a lot about the brand. Kudos Tano ladies for keeping things positive/intelligent here and not petty!
Actually, I have to say Ignes is very comparable in price if you like softer leathers! It isn't Italian leather, but a sort of ecological sort of brand that makes everything from Uruguay from the leathers and suede. He visits all the tanneries personally for orders. With the beginners discount as well as 25% off sales, I highly recommend them :) Last 2 bags, one just under 225 and the other was just under 250 INCLUDING shipping and customs, as well as customization on the suede and HW. CS is superb as well Very great deal IMO and underpriced if I do say so myself. The quality is SUPERB. The super soft suede lining beats Gryson.

I do love picking a Tano every season though!

ITA! Ignes bags are amazing for the price. The leather is gorgeous and I got to pick the drop size and my suede interior color. I even got my name engraved inside the bag for free. I love that bag! Ignacio (the owner) personally and thoroughly answers all questions too so it is wonderful! I paid less than $250 for a super high quality bag!

I love my 3 tanos as well. The price is fabulous! I love that I don't have to baby the leather.

Also just to be fair to all those mad about people saying they don't like Tano leather comments in this thread, they only did that when it was in the general forum. No one personally logged into the Tano SF to make comments about not liking the leather that I can see. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and tano is not for everyone so those comments were fair and justified when it was up for general discussion. I don't think public forums for opinions are the time to just always say nice things. Plus not liking a leather or a purse is not necessarily mean or hateful if stated with tact. It gives us a chance to learn about different brands. As long as people are honest and descriptive in what they like or don't like, it doesn't bother me one bit. I don't care if someone doesn't like the bag I carry. Thank goodness we all have different tastes! Not to mention you can always spot a post by just a plain ole hater who has no legit reason for their comments other than to be mean.

I often appreciate the opinions more when they come from the general SF because you get a great mixed review. Once it gets moved to the specific SF, it is harder to get both sides of the story. But of course this is all just IMHO!

Well, I can't believe I waited so long to try these bags! I've been carrying my Most Mysterious and I love it so much more than a similar bag, by a different designer, which I've had in the past and loved. This beats it, for sure!! And I can't wait to try my Boogie. I, too, love that they have soooo many styles, so many colors, and the price is right for someone like me, who can really only afford to have a small "stash." I'm thrilled with my Tanos, LOVE the crunch leather because I've always been so afraid to carry my other leather bags in the past, and I'm not at all worried about this leather. I also love that you don't see Tanos everywhere you go - I like feeling unique!! I was feeling a bit frustrated when it seemed someone else was trying to rain on my Boogie parade, so to speak, when I posted that I was ordering a Boogie. I love it and I'm so glad I finally bought it.

Ok, wow, holy rambling by me. Sorry!! This is all just to say that I am totally in love with Tano now, and I'm thrilled to say that I really think I have found a brand of bag that I will actually keep and not get bored with, as I have always done in the past.

And I will also say that I love the Tano SF!! I've only been posting for a week but I've always felt welcome here. It's my new "home base" on TPF, and it's all the wonderful ladies here who are so helpful and genuinely thrilled about Tano that make it the great place it is.

And now I am getting off my soapbox.

Oh, and can we call it "Tanonymous"? LOL!!
Couldn't agree more. I'm a mom and an artist, and I can't afford many bags, but I appreciate good quality and design. I could care less about what anyone else thinks about the "snootiness" factor with Tano, I just know I my Boogie bag and I'm getting another one! Tanonymous!

I hear what you are saying, Miss Bev.

Indeed, the general board is a public forum... but IMO a SF is really like a fan club. Popping into an SF and saying that the brand's products are overpriced and unimpressive seems out of line. To me, its sort of like crashing a party and insulting the hosts and guests! Perhaps I'm wrong, though...

Oh and my the way, Ive looked at/read reviews about the Ignes bags and they do seem to be well made, quality bags. The customization is also wonderful. (But I dare say that their styling is FAR more classic/conservative than Tano's. And the retail prices listed on their website for their medium size all leather bags are 195-230 EURO- about $100 higher than Tano's.)

I totally agree with this comment TE and I think we are on the same page. But I don't think some people realized this thread was started in the general forum and was later merged by a mod with the thread in tano SF. I was just pointing out that no one came in the tano SF to say anything negative. As a matter of fact, once it was in the tano SF, only great (fan club) comments were made.

I agree with you completely though. It would be wrong for someone to enter a SF if they didn't like the brand to just say negative remarks. That just didn't happen in this situation. Thank goodness people haven't started doing that on TPF yet.

I agree that Ignes bags are more classically designed. That is why I love to have a mix of brands. Ignes prices are very similar since Ignes offers great discounts to TPF members. I actually paid a few dollars less for my Ignes than 2 of my tanos. But the styles are different. I sort of look at my Tano bags as edgy/biker looking bags . Which reminds me I need to post some pics of my 3 bags. I will do that tomorrow!

^^please do post pics, Miss Bev!!!

and BTW, ITA with all your points:)

Except for Ignes/Tano prices being comparable! To be fair, you have to compare the retail prices, not discounted/sale prices. If Ignes bags retail for $300-$350, and Tano bags retail for $200-$250, its not exactly fair to compare them as "apples to apples", KWIM? (For example, one would expect that a $350 bag would have a more luxurious lining and more expensive hardware than a $250 bag, etc...)

I just have to chime in again regarding the lining. I've heard a number of disparaging remarks about Tano's lining, even from people who overall like the bags. But I LOVE the lining. I love the colors, and I actually really like the nylon-type lining. It is soft and doesn't rub or cause wear to my accessories inside the bag (unlike suede linings and thicker cotton linings). The purpose of a thin, slick lining is to keep the weight down and not to cause any abrasion to things inside the bag. Despite the thin linings, I've never had one snag or rip, even though I toss my keys in with no protection and often rummage around in them. Anyway, maybe I'm just easy to please, but I love the linings, too!

^Oh Painted you are hurting my bag fund! I almost forgot about what a good deal Ignes bags were! Suede linings . So many options though so I can't ever make up my mind on what to get! I am on the hunt for a gray bag for fall and don't see one for Tano so Ignes might be a great option. I need to check that out.

Just wanted to chime in that I love my Tano bags! I was hesitant at first after reading some posts about the leather being 'plastic-like.' I have to disagree. The leather is gorgeous and durable. I love not having to worry about a delicate leather with my 3 year old. I can't wait to order more tanos! I already have 2 with plans to order at least 2 more for Fall! I have only experienced the crunch leather and just love how it is starting to look distressed and even yummier!

I hope the minilisa's don't sell out before pics are posted. I am still on the fence about the size and waiting to see some modeling pics!!

I just read in the GF that Ignes bags are going up in price quite a bit this season. They are now around $400 retail for a medium size all leather bag... that's in MBMJ territory! For that price I would prefer a MBMJ... or two Tano's!

I dont know how anyone could put the word PLASTIC and the word CRUNCH in the same sentence. Crunch isn't plastic-y at all! Of course there are those who like this kind of leather and those who dont...I happen to like it.

As for Tano's linings, I love the bold contrast color lining and I love the new interior that Tano is doing with two bigger leather slit pockets and a stitched down zipper pocket. Ive never had a problem with the linings on my Tano bags ripping or fraying at all.

I've had a love affair with leather since I was a teen. It started with tack and saddles, and went on to handbags and clothing. If it's leather, I probably own and love it. One thing I've learned is how personal preference in leather is a lot like personal preference in perfume: it comes down to what works for the individual.

The Lenny leather of one of my Tano bags is only okay, but I like the crunch leather of my other bags very much. I could define my opinion more specifically--texture, drape, thickness, smooshiness, etc.--but it's still only my personal response to each leather. Others will experience the exact same leather differently, and they might go gaga over something that leaves me cold. That's happened so often in my adventures in bag hunting that while a review that waxes glorious about a bag's leather will catch my eye, I never count on it living up to expectations until I have the bag in my hot little hands.

What I love most about Tano bags are the edgy designs, the freewheeling fun of the bags, and the colors. I think Tano's Pool is my favorite color of all time! As for crunch leather, I'm buying another Boogie, I'm buying another Chicklit, I've got a Minilisa on the way. That leather works for me, totally.

I work in a plus size store and was reading a trade magazine a few weeks ago. There was an article about the price of shoes for spring '09. They are going up. And they want the stores to start easing into the increases a bit at a time - so the customers don't get shell shocked!!!
It said the transportation from china is very expensive and that will be relflected in prices. It said it will hit lower prices shoes harder than higher prices (% of the item).
So I think we can count on all goods going up - if they haven't already.
So get those tanos now!!!!!!!

Go Tano!
This thread was originally in the general forum. I wish they had kept it there, because the OP was looking for opinions based on why people do or don't buy Tanos. In the subforum, all she is going to get are people who are in love with the brand, and she isn't going to hear the other side.

I don't know why everyone gets so defensive about thier bags. Buy what you like and voice your opinion about why you like it, but please don't criticize others who have a different opinion. It's so high school.

Yes, it was on the general subforum. But what would be the purpose of having subforums if rogue threads were allowed to exist on the general one? There are no locks here, all are free to enter and give opinions. Members on a subforum can actually give opinions based on the fact they own the bag. I don't mind differing opinions but please display some tact when posting it. Words like "cheap" in describing any bag that people own aren't going to be popular on any subforum.
