Hell Hound has calmed down quite a bit . . . we had to exert our dominance over him the last couple of days. He was puppy biting WAY too much! I got some advice from a trainer after my DD locked herself in the bathroom crying yesterday because he was just too aggressive in play.
He loves the McDonald's commercial that is out now for the different drinks. He will stop dead in his tracks when he hears the music and sits in front of the TV! I love it! I consider you ladies the dog experts. . . how do you get a dog to quit eating bark?? I've sprayed Bitter Apple (which he seems to enjoy) on it. I know he likes the crunchy sound it makes, but it's SO FRUSTRATING! My DD had to wrestle him to the ground yesterday like the Crocodile Hunter to do the finger swoop. . . I swear he's gonna poop out a tree! It's not the cocoa mulch (which I know is poisonous--just your run of the mill redwood bark). I'm so effing hungry right now. . . I want some Mini Sirloin Burgers! They are so good! Horses the size of schnauzers . . . Ode -- the Mini Devote's base sticks out quite a bit more than the Boogie. I'm having problem with the "O" ring pinching my fat grandma arms when I use it. . . Grrrrr..... The plus is that it DOES stay on my fat grandma arms. . . (no offense to Grandmas ) |

There's some other stuff like Bitter Apple called Bitter Yuck (love the name). If it's bark mulch, maybe fence off that area? Give him plenty of other stuff to chew. And for pups, this is great for teething:
http://www.petsmart.com/search/index...ng%20keys&sr=1 Pups can be frustrating at times, you just have to channel their energy My little one will be two next month, but the first couple of weeks I had him I kept asking myself if I made a big mistake. Puppyhood is not easy! Hang in there!Joan |

^I had a dog in college that wouldn't stop eating wood, bark, etc. Yeah, little Guinness. We (he was a communal dog, brought home unannounced by a roomie) would see him trotting across the backyard carrying a piece of tree he had ripped off or a piece of the fence (
) and he would go off to eat it. If we took it away, he'd just find another piece. We just kept buying toys until the yard was filled with them, but he still preferred the wood. And the wood thing is bad. We ended up having to run him to the vet because he developed a blockage which thankfully passed without surgery. After that ordeal, he stopped eating wood.

Got all the Nylabone products . . . he still likes the wood! I'll try the Bitter Yuck instead of the Bitter Apple. We live in a patio home so the bark area is the only "live" area in the back. I think we're gonna have the complex gardner replace it with grass. He just loves it too much.
Yeah, I have to admit that I was crying yesterday afternoon thinking I had made a big mistake too. I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt like that. Today is a MUCH better day. He's cute and snuggly when he's close to sleeping but once he wakes up WATCH OUT! LOL!

That's what I am SO AFRAID of! I'm just not sure how much he ingests vs. chomping on and spitting out. I finger swipe him all the time when he grabs a piece. I feel like a new mother all over again. . .

Thanks haggers and Kris...that makes sense...and now I may stick to getting the MAC or mini nikki in teal...just wish there were discount codes...I have yet to buy an RM at full price...but teal is making me think LONG and HARD on doing just that!
Haggers...dogs...wood...I have no advice...my two labs ATE A TREE!! Serious...we has a 7 foot tulip poplar tree base was about a half dollar in diameter I guess maybe a bit more, and one day we came home and it was a 3 foot stick...they just chewed right through it...I have one lab, the yellow one, and he is my chewer...he ate the ballisters on our deck...like enough that we will probably have to redo them to sell... My only advice is to train him on the leave it command...and once he gets that, then use it for bark....puppies are SO much work...have you got a kong toy for him yet...a little peanut butter (you can even freeze it for a treat that takes them longer to eat up, tip our obedience class taught us) but this is the only toy our labs have not been able to destroy...and they still love them... Back to work...ugh. |

![]() Yeah, I have Kong too! I stuffed that little bugger with PB, froze it, and it just gave him the runs. . . Oh well. I guess the only three words in my vocabulary for the next few months (or years) is LEAVE IT and NO! I just tell everyone that his name is "NO ALEX"! LOL! |

He looks like an angel...
DH and I got our first lab as a pup because we needed to raise him together first before trying for a baby...and there were times I seriously thought we had made a bad choice...but now that both boys are 2 years old...things are much easier...granted...I have 170 pounds of dog...which is a lot of dog, so there are still times, but I love them to death...worth all the work! |
