Question "You look just like a Barbie doll!"

Not exactly sure where this belongs so mods feel free to move it where you please!

I was with a few friends today and I was just simply taking my hair down, flipping my head over, and putting my hair into a ponytail on the top of my head, when a friend exclaimed that. My response was, "I'm not blonde.." and she just said that there were Barbies with dark hair but that's beside the point.

If a friend said that to you, would you take it as a compliment or as an insult?

I'm not obsessing over this LOL, so don't get the wrong idea! I didn't take it wrong or anything and I know my friend was intending it to be flattery but I'm just throwing the question out there.

I have gotten that alot. I always take it as a complement! It just means you are attractive and doll-like IMO.

I don't think it could be an insult unless you're CLEARLY trying to be opposite.
DH and I were called Ken and Barbie for a long time and I was called that in high school.
No harm.

I always got it in elementary school because I had really long hair (to my waist) and I was blonde.
Depends on the context though...if it was said meaning that you're fake or plastic, then I'd be offended. But if it was said inferring that you're attractive, then I'd be flattered.
It seems like your friend meant it as a compliment though so I'd be flattered.

It's when someone says you look like a Ken doll that ya gotta start worrying, until then, enjoy!

Once my BF told me I look like a black Barbie doll. Does that count?

I can't remember if I took it as a compliment or not, although I'm sure he thought he meant it to be one.

So weird why women wouldn't take it to be a complement. Barbie's pretty in the conventional sense and it's kind of just like telling someone she is pretty in the socially-accepted sense. I guess the Barbie image has become complicated after all the feminist attacks on making girls feel inadequate and stuff...

apparently, a group of kids in one of my classes during my freshman year of college called me the Asian barbie doll... they didn't know my name at the time, and i found this out after we all sorta got to know each other. i wasn't offended or anything... i guess what they meant by that was i always looked polished when i went to class, even at 8 am, while most students wear sweats or even pjs to class sometimes. i assume it's supposed to be a form of flattery.
