Default You and your dad?

So my dad's looks very young and is pretty good looking... and I'm tall and look older than I am. We don't really look alike because I take more after my mom... My friends sometimes swoon over my dad... which grosses me out but that's not even the worst problem.

Last night I went to a party with him at his boss's and the women assumed I was his new wife!!! UGH. I laughed about it but of course it grossed me out. He's taking me to Vegas for a few days and I'm making reservations for nice restaurants... I can't help but think people will assume I'm his date.

Do you have this awkward and hilarious problem? How do you deal with it?

I used to have that problem and my dad is 30 years older than I am. One time he went to test drive a car and the salesman told my dad that he'd sit in the back so his WIFE could sit up front! Gross! I also used to go out to eat with my dad a lot and heard us get referred to as a couple.

Now, I do like older guys, but 30 years older, a little too much!

my dad is 40 years older than me but he looks younger than his age and I look older than my age. Ever since puberty I felt like I got those weird glances from people like we were a couple. When I lived at home, my mom would have her "bingo night" and her "dance night" so often on those nights my Dad and I would go out to eat or something together. I usually didn't care too much what people thought but if I would have ever actually been referred to as his wife or something than that would be totally awkward. I think it's safer to refer people as a couple in that situation if they don't know. I have dated older guys and sometimes I think if we were the same race if people would assume they were my dad lol. And It's probably more polite to call them a couple because if it's wrong both everyone can kind of laugh but lets say you were really with your SO and there is a noticeable age difference...if someone assumed one was the others parent thats like saying "your old and your date looks underage!"

OHhh you bet they will assume that here. And most of the time they'd be right!

You are some lucky ladies to still have your dads alive!

It has happened to me. He is mid-50's, I am mid 20's (well, technically, I guess I am moving into late 20's). I don't mind it. We look nothing alike either, b/c he adopted me and maybe we get it more b/c of that (??). It humors my dad and he thinks that people always just think he is young and he likes it. If it makes him smile, it makes me smile...

LOL This is funny to me! My dad is 31 years older than I am, but I don't think anyone has ever mistaken him for my spouse. Ew! He doesn't really look 62, he looks like he could be younger by about ten or fifteen years as he has all his hair and very little gray, but I look my age and nobody has ever made that mistake, probably because we're not out in public a lot together and don't hang out as a duo. We ran into each other in the parking lot of the mall a few weeks back; technically that' the last time we've been together in public at the same time! However, I can assure you that if anyone did make that mistake I'd be quite disturbed.

Haven't been thought of as his wife... but there was the time dad and uncle were arguing over paying the jamba juice bill with me standing there... we looked like a happy family though

I looked so much like my dad that no one would have ever considered us anything but daddy and daughter. I mean carbon copy, except I had blondish-brown hair and his was darker. But I'll bet it would have been awkward for you who were confused as the wife in the duo. I miss my dad.

My father was 22 years older than I, and when I was a teen, he was always mistaken for my husband or boyfriend. He thought it was funny, I was soooo embarrased!

It got even worse when I was pregnant with my daughter... Dad got some real withering looks. I was 15, but looked older. He was 37. (We marry young in my family)

My dad is 30 years older than me and once, about 8 years ago, we went to Sizzler and the clerk asked him what he wanted to order. Then she asked HIM what he'd like to order for his wife...

Well, let's say it was an ego boost for him.

Um... heck no. My dad is totally unsexy and nerdy, not to mention 40 years older than me.

Oh man this happened to me too!!! I was at dinner with my dad and one of his friends (who knew me practically my whole life, I mean...hello? I don't look that different) comes up to the table and starts talking. After dinner I'm driving home and my dad calls me laughing because the guy thinks I'm his girlfriend. EW!!! That's just EW!!!
