What is Love?

Tough question, I thought. Please don't give merely give examples (love is my dh buying me a LV, ect.) but attempt to define it.
Is it a feeling?
Is it shown by sacrifice?
Is it an act?
Is it necessarily lifelong?
Is it undefinable?
This may not be a philosophy forum, but I wanted PFers' opinions. I need to reread The Art of Love BTW.

j/k, seriously - I think its the fact that if you love someone, you will do for this person something you wouldnt do for anyone else in the world, yet it still feels right and makes you happy - because you love him.

I think it's a choice you make everyday of your life in how you feel, act, react, and interact with a person, and how you feel, act, react, and interact with others with that person in mind.

Of course, it's a lot more too. But usually I feel that's what it boils down to in the end.

personally i think love is when your willing to do tons of selfless acts for that person and expect nothing in return.

Love is many things, there isn't a single definition of love.
Of many meanings, love is taking an active interest in the things that I ADORE, when it bored him to death back in the day when we were dating. "Active" meaning on his own accord, not a prompt from me.

I don't believe that you can simply say "Love is xxxx". It's just not that simple.

I think the best definition I've seen of love is:

If I speak in human and angelic tnoghes but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or clashing cymbal.

And if I have the gift of prophesy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.

If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous, it does not put on airs; it is not snobbish. Love is never rude, love is not self-seeking, it is not prone to anger; nor does it brood over injuries. Love does not rejoice in what is wrong, but rejoices with the truth. There is no limit to love's forebearance, to its trust, its hope, its power to endure. Love never fails.

Prophecies will cease, tongues will be silent, knowledge will pass away. Our knowlege is imperfect and our prophesying is imperfet. When the perfect comes,t he imperfect will pass away. Love is when you feel giddy about them, and get excited to see them, of course every love is different thats just how i experience it. It also seems that you don't mind going out of your way to do big things for them, you put their feelings infront of your own and if they feel the same way about you they should do the same for you... so its a feeling but its also a sacrifice/commitment. Its not to say you don't see a hunk walkin down the street and fantasize for a moment- but you don't act on it.... but its hard to define because everyone experiences it differently depending on their personality. you just feel different.. more complete

Honestly and personally speaking.....

Love to me is a deep connection of my soul to another that I feel with only one being/entity....God. The next best thing is the indescribable connection with my kid....everything else is created and can be changed in my opinion......

I hope I made some sense...lol.....

First of all, I just have to post this one..

I'm still 17, many may say still too young and naive to know "love" but so far I've learned from my experiences in friendship and relationsions, LOVE for me means... finding that one person who makes you happy, sad, angry, fustrated, crazy, emotional, etc... but in the end HAPPY. Love is being patient and being able to compromise. Love is not selfish but sharing and putting the other person first. Love is not being afraid to do things together and getting over a personal fear. That's only a few of my definitions

Love is a friend or a lover.
