Yep, we are doing ALL of the work ourselves. Cousins Hubby is a licensed electrician and all around handy man and so he's doing the hard stuff, like replacing the light fixtures and the wall heaters. My parents remodeled 8 houses and built 1 before my Dad passed away, so Mama knows her stuff!!
And yes, Shoo, I SOOOO love watching him do Manly stuff!! |

So last night we painted all the closets and finished painting the ceilings! Talk about hard work....I was in charge of trimming so my hands are all twisted and mangled from holding the brush!! Tonight we're going to order countertops and then we're going to paint some more at the house!! I have pictures of the weekends festivities, but when I tried to upload them it wouldn't let me. So I'll have to try again later!!

Oh boy, what a night we had last night....
1) DF can't paint worth squat and put the dark brown paint in the master bedroom on way too thin and so we have to do a 2nd coat. 2) My Mom spilled an entire pint of the light brown paint all over the hardwood floor in the spare bedroom. So we spent 15 minutes cleaning that up. 3) We were stalked by the water company at midnight. We see a car with it's flashing light on sitting in the driveway, so I call DF, who has already gone home, and he looks into it, it's the water company. WHY were they out at midnight??? 4) 3 minutes after the water guys left, I was standing in the kitchen cleaning out the paint rags when my Mom yells my name telling me to call DF cause the WATER HEATER EXPLODED!! DF and his Dad came over and FIL managed to get the water turned off to the house, and I hope he called the water company out there today. We went to Lowe's last night and bought the countertops and a sink. I'm meeting the guy tomorrow morning to get measurements and all that. We're getting so close to being done!! I'm getting very excited!! |

Oh Shoo "The Money Pit" has been my all time favorite movie since I was a tiny girl. I told my Mom I figured the water heater blowing up was our porcelain tub falling through the floor lol! I kept listening trying to hear Tom Hanks laughing!!!
Ad Chanel, I have NOT A CLUE why they were there at Midnight. It freaked me out. |

Here's some new pics of the progress. We made MORE progress the other night. We got both bedrooms painted and the bathroom got it's first coat of paint. I can't wait to have a finished product!! We're going Saturday and buying our refrigerator and stove and washer and dryer.
Tonight we're priming the cabinet doors and the base and then we're gonna prime all the walls we're gonna paint dark. HOPEFULLY my cousin and her husband will be back tonight. He's been having a hard time at work and hasn't been able to be much help in the last few days. We purchased our countertops and they will be going in around the first week of November, which is when our heaters should be in. DF still has to get the old air conditioner out of the window, and get the house pressure washed before it gets too cold. I'm moving all my stuff the week of Nov. 29th, whether we are close to done or not. But we will be done! My Mom has every faith that all will be complete by my birthday on Nov 14th!! What a birthday present huh??! Anyhoo, here they are!! 1) Cabinets are sanded down, ready to take primer and paint!! I cannot wait, I HATE those cabinets sooo much right now. The real joy will be when we paint over those hideous "Butter" colored walls. EW. 2) The mess the kitchen REMAINS in. It looks like a bomb exploded and I am dreaming of the day when I walk in and I can see clean.....smooth new countertops, brown cabinets, willow tree green walls......nice stainless steel appliances.....ah. 3) We keep telling DF to GET RID OF THE FRIDGE, so, hoping to tempt him, my Mom and I pulled it out in the middle of the kitchen floor, which is also where the stove is sitting. They must be gone before the countertops get put in, before we bring the new stuff home!! 4) We primed the paneling over the cabinets. It's going to be the same color green as the rest of the kitchen. 5) The light at the end of the tunnel is a crisp white closet!! All our closets, only 3, have been painted stark white, they look considerably cleaner and I'm not afraid to hang my clothes in them now!! That's all till later!! |

I have better pictures, but they're on my iPhone. I will take "Big Girl" pictures tomorrow afternoon and post them tomorrow night.
So tonight, we finished putting in the light fixtures, what a difference that makes!! it's starting to feel like OUR HOUSE now instead of "the house." Our Master Bedroom is now a chocolate Brown. The Spare Bedroom is a butterscotch color. My mom says we have a chocolate pie and a butterscotch pie. We're from the south, we think in food lol. The bathroom is now the dark maroon color we wanted and I'm telling you it is STUNNING! It will got with pink, brown, white, purple....it's amazing! My cousin and I primed out cabinets tonight, and hopefully tomorrow morning someone is going to come get the cabinet doors and paint them!! Tomorrow morning we, being me Mom and DF, are going to purchase out Fridge, Stove and Washer/Dryer. Like I said, I will post pics tomorrow night! I'm sooo excited. We're getting REALLY REALLY close!!! |

Oh Roo, I hope so. My ultimate goal is to have his oldest sister (who lived in this house with her hubby and kids up until 5 years ago and is responsible for ALL the decorating done inside the house, including those horrible Butter Color Kitchen Walls, and kept telling me what not to get rid of...IE "Well you know, [DH] and I put that border up in the kitchen and we did the wall paper in the bathroom...." I love her lots but she gets under my skin sometimes cause she could worry the hind leg off a mule) to walk into the house and be speechless. In a dream world she would pass slick out. Lol!
It was alright, live-in-able before, but I just wouldn't have been happy. I want DF to be proud to bring people home. My Mom mentioned that in all of the houses she and my Dad redid, that Daddy was always so proud to bring people home, telling them what all Mama had done to make it pretty. I want DF to be that proud. I want it to look good for other people to see, don't get me wrong, but I really want it just to be our own little cave! Someplace we can be alone together and just BE with each other. I want it to feel like no home he's ever had before. (His parents are divorced and him and his lil brother were tossed around between their mom and their dad for years.) I want him to come in from a hard day at work and take a sigh of relief because this is his HOME.....I really just wanna make him happy. And I think he is very pleased with the work done so far. He could have moved in with it the way it was, but why not do better when you can, you know?? |

I wouldn't worry about what your SIL thinks, to be honest. When she lived there, maybe those butter colored walls were her dream too? I'd stay away from trying to "outdo" her in this house. Try to remember that was her house at one time too and it probably has special memories for her, so it may be hard for her to see it changed. Focus on what you are doing, for now. ![]() |

Well yeah, I am, but you just have to know her. She can suck the joy out of any situation. It's not that we're trying to outdo them with the house, instead more like showing her all that it can be. She told me, before I'd ever seen it the first time, that "Oh Missy there's just not a lot that you can do with that house. Throw some paint on the walls and deal with it. It's just so old there's no way of ever making it look modern and sophisticated." I took that statement on as my own personal debunking mission, you know??
Ok, UPDATE TIME!!! Yesterday (Saturday) we went to Sears, as they were having an all out massive appliance sale. We got a Kenmore Fridge, Stove and Washer and dryer, a microwave, a dehumidifyer (as our house is wetter than a lake) and then to top the whole afternoon off, when we left to go check and see if our furniture was still being held by the store, DF bought us a BRAND NEW dining room table and chairs. Glass top table (easy cleanup!) with brown iron work and sunflower images carved right into the iron. It's a pub table, meaning it sits up higher than the average table. It's STUNNING. A lot better than what we had before. Our original set had been sold to us for 75 dollars when we realized a table that my Mom had saved for us wouldn't fit in our kitchen. We bought it off of friends and I hated it, I just said yes cause we needed a table and chairs. I planned on keeping it covered with a table cloth and making covers for the chairs. Now I don't have to!! Yay! I'll see if I can get some pics posted of all these goodies soon!! BTW we got the first coat of paint on the kitchen cabinet base and DF's friend (and Best Man) went and picked up the doors to paint today, hopefully!! We are just moving right along!! So the rest of the time we're painting! They're installing new heaters and the new countertops the first week of November, not too far away, and then on Nov. 17th, which would have been my Mommy and Daddy's wedding anniversary if he was still with us :(, Sears is delivering all our appliances and hooking them up! And then...WE CAN BRING HOME THE FURNITURE!!! YAY!! The only bad part is that was LITERALLY have to bring home the furniture ourselves. The place where we bought all of it is sort of like a TJ Maxx or Marshalls for furniture and so to keep the extra cost down they will not deliver. Poo. Oh well!! DF's family is loaded with pick up trucks! So anyway, I'd better get back to whatever I was doing, I can't remember. Posting pics tomorrow morning! See ya! G'night ladies and gents of tPf. |

Hey guys. Pics promised, now here they are!!
I'll post updates of the house and then my crummy iPhone pics of our new table. I love it sooo much! 1) DF and I, after a long night. You can tell how worn out we are. 2) DF tapes off the wall as I paint the door facing. 3) The beautiful color on the cabinets. I can't tell how well I like them yet. Not until those Butter walls are gone! 4) The color in the bathroom and the new light fixture! 5) A view of the bathroom from the door. to be continued... |
