Well, as some of you may know, my dad had his surgery today to have his prostate removed to hopefully get rid of the prostate cancer. The surgery took a long time since he had radiation previously; we got there today at 7am, they took him in at 8:30 and the surgery went until about 1:30pm.

Then after hours of sitting, waiting and wondering with my mom and brother, the dr. came out and said that everything did go well, better than expected, thank goodness. He's going to have to stay in the hospital for 2 days, then hopefully come home on Friday. We finally got to see him around 4:30pm and just got home not long ago.

Anyway, the road to recovery will be long and we'll all get through it, but I need everyone's thoughts and prayers that the surgery did the trick and got rid of all the cancer cells. Previous tests had shown that the cancer hadn't metastasized and that it was centrally located in the prostate, so we're all hoping that this surgery got rid of it completely.

Oh LVBD, thanks for this post and sharing your Dad's update! So glad he is out of surgery and he'll be home before you know it.

But yep, that is major surgery and he will need to be extra gentle with a long road ahead. Great news it had not spread.

I am sending good wishes to your dad. My uncle had prostate cancer a few years ago and the treatment went well, so hopefully things will be the same for your dad.

I'll definitely keep you all posted, too. I'm glad to hear that others have known people who have come out of it successfully, it really helps me feel better.
I know he'll get better, he already had his sense of humor back tonight lol.

Aw, thank you again. I really appreciate all the support, your comments really mean a lot to me!
And thanks, Speedy, I couldn't imagine my life without him (or my mom). We've always gotten along so well and I am so happy that I have the great relationship with both of my parents that I do.
We're going to visit him tomorrow afternoon to give him enough time to rest since they gave him morphine. I can't wait to see him.
