Today while in Neiman Marcus, I was approached by an obviously gay SA. He helped me make a purchase of some lotion, Kelly Caleche. He was very talkative and entertaining. He later preceeded to ask me if my daughter was my sister. I handled it well. I exclaimed that it is all in the genes and lifestyle, very unapologically. I later felt that he was crossing the boundaries...How dare he ask such an unintelligent question. It is obvious that this child who is the same height as me is not my sister; my younger sister is 34 years old. How do you feel about these type of queer encounters.

Umm.. are you serious? It sounds to me like he was trying to compliment you. What does his question have anything to do with being gay, anyways?

me thinks he was trying to make a sale. either that or he was paying you a compliment. either way, just smile and say thank you.
I've had guys do this to me and when I think its BS I'll just laugh and tell them, "c'mon now, laying it on a little thick aren't ya?"
and I assume you used the word "queer" as in "weird" and not in the gay sense?

Gay or not, I'd take that compliment all day long. Well, actually, come to think of it, I have been asked that on several occassions but it is so not an insult to me.....even if they may be trying to make a sale. Hell, I'd buy anything from them with those words coming out of their mouth.

Would it have bothered you had it not been a gay guy???

I love my gay friends....especially when they fawn all over my shoes....

^^^I trying to view it as a compliment. His sexual orientation had nothing to do with the question. His sales pitch had everything to do with his lifestyle. He was quite amusing.

well then you should take it that way. he was trying to be nice. I wouldn't see it as an unitelligent question. would you have rather he been stoic and not engage you at all? I like it when people are chatty - as long as I'm in a good mood and even if I'm not, cause they might help cheer me up!

dallas, you're right people ask strange questions all the time. I guess I'm considerate so I keep my comments to myself.

I don't get why you didn't take that as a compliment???? He was obviously trying to be nice by what you say.

Now had he come out and asked your daughter if you were her grandmother, that would have been offensive.

abbygirl, unintelligent questions are produced from everyone. I know I sometimes ask questions that I later regret.
