Default Romantic things, Fun things...

My SO's birthday is on Monday so we're planning some things starting tomorrow afternoon. A little bit of time without the kid is supposed to be featured during the week, but since we haven't had much 'alone time' over the years we seem to have run out of romantic things to do.

I'd like romantic or fun suggestions, not so much sexy ones. You know, keep it light and entertaining. We plan to be away a few nights as the parents have agreed to babysit...

Any ideas?

Well, DH and I just had our first day off from work in a LOOOOONG time, so we planned a trip to the coast to go to the aquarium (we both love creatures of the Earth and learning more about biology) to see the new exhibit - called OddWater. They had a bunch of 'funny' looking fish and sea creatures from all over the world, it was so much fun! We went through all the exhibits, like usual, and were around to watch the sea otters get fed. They only have males at our aquarium because they are kept for breeding and are taken up to Seattle when it is mating time. I was really sad to learn that Wolf Eel are life partners and so when they are taken out of the sea, they are usually separated from their partner So there was a real breakthrough at our aquarium when they figured out how to keep that from happening or at least an alternative to taking them out of the ocean. Oregon is a great state for Fish and Wildlife studies and we have the #2 school in the nation for people studying that (OSU) so we know my husband is getting a great education in his area of study.

ANYWAY....point is...there has to be things you two have in common that maybe one of you know more about than the other. I know that I love learning about stuff from Jason that I didn't previously know. OR even that you both have a lot of knowledge about and can really share together. We went on a long walk after that, had lunch, and spent a lot of alone time just chatting and relaxing. I only suggest that because you are interested in intellectual pursuits and so it would seem great to be able to combine that with alone time somehow.

Thanks for the ideas!!! It's quite odd because we met when DS was little so there has never been many things we did on our own. For Monday we will be planning a cookout and a family picnic with some boating involved.

The aquarium idea sounds great - we are about an hour away from a large aquarium and both of us love fish/wildlife.

If I ask him to teach me something he tries to teach me programming in Java or VB or something so I try to avoid that route, lol.

On days off, my SO and I like to make breakfast together. There is just something really romantic about makig waffles in just a t-shirt while some music is playing in the background.
