Default Random new years wishes from past dates?

Remember my "We danced close and I steamed up his bifocals" thread from awhile back...the guy who took me salsa dancing? No? I had almost forgotten about it too, LOL.

I think that was September. After two dates I told him I wasn't ready for anything more...but I just got a vm from him wishing me a happy new years and no he didn't sound drunk or anything. It just made me realize how far I've come, and while as fun as knowing him was, it just wasn't a good fit (big age difference plus a lot more).

Anyone else get phone calls/texts from people in your past for new years wishes?

Yes. Really random... usually I'm nice and say something like "you too!" Although I'm really over it, can't be mean to someone on a holiday...

Yeah, this is the time of year when people look back and see you didn't die and they still have a valid email addy for you.

I get them alot this time of year, but not from men I've dated. That's only because I've been happily married for a long time. I don't think email even exsisted when I was single.

I feel like an old pro at dating and believe me it AIN'T anything worth bragging about!! 40-something dating is a trip. I'm either dealing with lifelong bachelors (not that there's anything wrong with that but you begin to wonder as I'm sure they do about me), to those either with nearly grown kids who have retirement staring them down the barrel, or very young kids and all the committments there, plus the ex wife/alimony/child support committments. Nothing wrong with kids of course, heck 99.9% of the world has kids but it introduces a whole new element into the relationship. I'm working through a lot of that right now and I'm very out of practice as I haven't dated a man with kids in a few years.

Anyway, mr. salsa dancer was a fun charmer but not a lot for us in common.

So true, Speedy!

I still get random emails/phone calls from a guy I dated several years back. He keeps hoping I've changed my mind.

Mind you, I don't think it's because he thinks I'm all that....it's because at his (and*cough*my) age.....he's starting to get a little panicky. Well, that...and the fact that guys think you're just pining away by the phone waiting for them to call. You couldn't possibly be dating anyone else. Or have gotten engaged.

I've gotten text messages and emails from old flames around this time of the year, but I think they just set it to spam all their addresses/numbers, so I don't feel too special. :) But a voicemail? Sounds like he just wants to give you a little "nugget" in the slight chance you've changed your mind...

Oh, yeah... and usually somewhere in the email is the question "Miss me?"

Amazes me what some people think.

But the ones I get are mostly from gals from other forums I'd made friends with and for some reason we hadn't talked in awhile. Somehow we get reduced to a email not of a personal nature (such as one of the hoax emails with a million forwards on it) and just move along in life without each other. I just got one from a couple of gals who hadn't heard from me in a long time because I stopped real time chats... but I was so happy to hear from them!

I haven't gotten a new years wish from anyone! I almost forgot it was new years. I just flew into town this evening and when the plane was flying over the city I was wondering why there were fireworks and then I remembered.
