wow some of these are insane! I never had a roommate, but a friend of mine stayed with this girl who was OCD neat freak! I like this to be neat too, but this girl took it to another level. My friend left out a bowl with a little milk in it and forgot to put it in the sink. Well her roommate reminded her by putting the bowl of milk on my friends bed!!!!! That's how she would "remind" her she left food items out.... by putting them on her bed. If my friend left a bottle of ketchup out, it went on the bed. Water? On the bed.
My friend moved out after 2 months. |

OMG.. this totally hit home with me except it was more housemate than roommate when I was on an exchange programme in Milan 3 years back. Let me relive my nightmare of having a male Sicilian housemate who was more freak than suave.
Firstly he cheated me & my roommate of 150euros each within the first couple of months of us being there. Secondly, he used to throw parties that would result in the neighbour below raising complaints, reporting to the police/landlord & almost got us evicted. Yet he had the audacity to tell everyone that it was my roomie's & my fault when all we would do was hole ourselves in our room watching vcds. Thirdly, he would walk into our room, plonk his arse on our pillows & use our computers. He had the nerve to ask why we kept our computer clocks to Singapore timing. As if we need to explain to him. Fourthly, he walked into the toilet when I was inside (the lock was spoilt). Thankfully I had just changed after a shower, but still! He never apologised! Fifthly, he would throw a party EVERY time after roomie & I had cleaned it. Sixthly, he not only used my hair gel/toiletries, I found out he had even used my toothbrush! Seventhly, he wouldn't clean the stove after he spilt stuff on it. Eightly, when we moved out, he tried to get us to pay for his TV bill which was 200euros over and above the contracted plan. When we moved out without paying him anything, especially since he had cheated us of 150euros each, he threw potatoes down from the balcony while we were waiting for cabs with our friends! I'm sure there's more but I don't want to remember anything anymore! Oh wait, two more. He used to smoke weed in the house & banned roomie & I from speaking Mandarin to each other 'cos he wouldn't understand. Yet he could speak Italian to his friends when they came over. What gives right? |

Wow! I hope I will never get a roommate like those. It's horrible! I'm also very picky on things like hygiene. I won't even eat things that will crumb in my bedroom because I can't stand the idea of crumbs in my bed. I really can't stand living in a mess! I'd seriously flip out if I had to live with some of the roommates you have discribed.

i wish i knew about this thread back when i was living with my last roomie!
she had a dog, which was ok at first, but we were both gone for 12hrs+ a day, and the dog started going to the bathroom all over the apt (#1 and #2) it was really gross and i would come home first & have to clean it up. it started to happen so often i would stop cleaning it up, i would have to avoid parts of the apt. then the dog found a way to break into my room and route through my garbage so i would come home to my garbage all over the place. i cant blame the dog but i started to not like my roomie since it was her responsiblity. grrrrr and another time i was already asleep on a weekday and she somehow "lost" her keys. but she had them when she left the apt because the deadbolt was locked. and at about midnight, after i fell asleep, the buzzer rang like 5 times in a row. scared the sh*t out of me! i figured it was some drunk person trying to get into the building. so i ignored it. but she continued to ring the buzzer non-stop. so much i looked downstairs and saw it was her. it was just a very rude to approach the situation. she could have called instead of ringing the buzzer nonstop scaring the sh*t outta me!! so happy i moved out and living on my own! |

My roommate story is interconnected with another horrible roommate story.
2005: My friend D, lived with a girl R who was dating a mutual friend V(boy). Now, D is 6ft tall and V is 5'4. R, was psychotic when it came to V, calling him, filling up his box, going to his apt at all hours, forcing him to buy her all sorts of things, etc. So for D's birthday V bought her an iPod Mini and R flipped out, he then also bought R a mini. By this point it was too late and R was convinced that D and V were hooking up (they weren't). It got so bad D would spend the nigh at other friends' apartments. R would go bang on V's window and broke the window TWICE. One time, she flipped out in a parking lot because R and the other friends were already waiting at the elevator and V and D were lagging. The culmination of this was one night D came back to the apartment from her parents' house and realized she forgot her apt keys. V told her to spend the night at his apt because he was staying at his aunt's for the night and his roomies let D in. R drives past V's apt in the middle of the night and sees D's car there. She goes berserk and calls D's parents and V's parents and tells them that their kids are currently having sex and they should come watch. It is pouring rain in SoCal and D's dad drives to the apt at 4am to see what's going on. She then moved out and stopped talking to R. R and I don't get along because she relentlessly pursued my bf (now Ex) of 5 yrs. Fast forward to 2007: The apartments we live in are 4bd/4ba and each roomie only rents out their own room/bathroom and has a key to their own room. My apt had only me living in it for about 4 months with 3 empty bedrooms when a second roomie, A moves in with her cat. Pets are strictly against our leases, but she promised it would stay out of the way so I ignored it. After explicitly telling her that the apartment is nonsmoking, A constantly smokes in the apartment, uses my candle holders as ashtrays, eats my food, drinks my drinks, uses my dishes and never washes them. She also keeps her cat locked in a cat carrier in her bathroom all day. Additionally, she doesn't clean her bathroom, her tub is COATED black so she breaks into one of the now 2 empty bedrooms and and uses the bathroom there and throws her DIRTY, USED tampons on the corner of the counter. The living room of course I clean up, the dishes I do, the trash I take out. I proceeded to start to keep all my nonperishable food/drinks in my room. 1 month later 2 girls move in. One of them "informs" A and I that her cousin will be sleeping on our couch for 3 months. They then have 11 guys over, screaming, playing video games on MY tv with MY PS2 until 5am. I walk out of my room to go to class and there are 4 people passed out in the living room, 2 of whom are having sex. That day I go to the grocery store and I bought 10 lean cuisines, go out at night and come back and go to the freezer for a late night meal, every single lean cuisine is gone. On the coffee table is a HUGE pile of weed. At 2am I went and woke up the property mgr and informed him of what was going on. They told me they would "talk" to them. The next evening miraculously there is no one there and I'm studying in the living room when the cousin that's crashing on the couch stumbles in drunk/high, curses me out for complaining to the manager and says that if she wasn't drunk she'd "knock me out," and says to stay out of her way because if she sees me when she's sober she'll "kick my ass" and then leaves. I'm now at my wits' end and I call the manager who calls the police. They take down a report and in the meantime the roommates and their 11 guy buddies show up. The cops then escort the cousin and the guys off the property and inform them that if they return, they will be arrested. One of the guys gets pissed off and proceeds to get himself arrested for possession, assaulting a cop and public drunkenness. The roommates are told that they have until 5pm to move out the building or else they will be escorted off of the property. (All this happened in 5 days). Two months later, two more girls move in. These girls are R's new BFF's (they're 19 yr old sophomores and we're now 22). These girls, in july keep the thermostat at 80 *mind you- electricity and utilities are included in rent.* They are also filthy. They cook and leave cooken chicken stuck to my pans for days at a time. I left for 2 nights with a clean sink and subsequently come home to the sinks overflowing with MY dishes. I told them to clean, and they said tomorrow. At this point I FLIPPED out (because prior to this I have several times politely asked them to pick up after themselves) and said, "NO, you use every single one of MY dishes and have the AUDACITY to refuse to clean them? Those are for MY use and you may use them, IF you clean them so that when I want to use them there are actually clean dishes to be used!" They also throw away my silverware with their fast food. UGH. Additionally, they fill up huge black trash bags and pile them up in the living room, at any given point there are about 4, I keep my garbage separately. Finally, she has the nerve to put up a note saying, "The apt won't always be sparkling clean, get used to it. Do not put the AC below 70 degrees. If you don't want your dishes to be used, move them out of the cabinets. If you need a dish, wash one. If the trash bothers you, take it out." That night I moved every single dish out of the kitchen and was fortunate enough to hear them cursing in the morning while trying to make breakfast. Also, I constantly keep setting the AC to 55 degrees. I'm freezing, but they're worse.(Sorry for the rant!) |

ooh one more one more!
i came home one monday after i'd been away for the weekend and the place was looking a bit messy, but nothing out of the ordinary, nothing to freak out about. that is, until i noticed a really *odd* smell. i went exploring and looked inside the fridge, there was the usual plethora of food that was just about liquid but that wasn't the smell. i didn't really think i'd find anything in there but.. i opened up the oven anyway.there was half a chicken in there, the other half of which i later found in the bin now bear in mind, this was at about 11 on a monday morning and there was no chance of her coming home for lunch. and it smelled odd. i sent a text asking why on earth there was random poultry in the oven. she said..."oh, it wasn't totally done so i put it back in." umm sure, that's what i was getting at so this must have been there at least from sunday night, but at worst from friday night she said she'd clean it up after she got home so i closed the oven and went about my day. following morning, it was still there. not my job, so i leave it. following morning, STILL there. that was my breaking point so i cleaned it up. i mentioned in passing that i threw it away and she made a big point of saying "oh but i would've done that, you shouldn't have!" yummmm.. salmonella anybody? |

oh oh i forgot this one!
i moved into my first apt with 3 other girls in january. at the end of the quarter we'd have cleaning inspections - so ours came around in... march. one of my roomies and i were cleaning (cause that's what we did) when we opened a rice cooker... and found molded, months old rice. it was SO disgusting. there was nothing like that smell... it makes me want to throw up to think about it. evidently it had been there for at LEAST 3 months. ugh god. |

One more for me, too! Same girl as aforementioned post.
She got pissed off because her bf left the room to talk to his parents on the phone. Gets into a huge argument with him, expects me to support her, and when I don't tells me I'm a horrible friend/roommate/etc. and storm out the apartment. She then calls the bf who's still at the apartment and begins to scream into the phone like she's being kidnapped/attacked. We freak out, call the police and drive around looking for her (she had no car so had to have walked.) We find her sitting on a corner about a mile away, with her shirt ripped. She tells us a man attacked her and took her phone. Then her phone rings like 5 minutes later. She then admits to ripping her own shirt, and doing all that other crazy stuff to make sure we still cared about her.
