you are so sweet Caitlin, to give them the benefit of the doubt. The first snot sounds like a watery tart and I just won't go there. i'd like to lob a scimitar at her. The second probably should have tried to find a way to have her own room...when my bff started getting migraines real bad halfway thru the year once, she went down to housing and dining and told them what was going on and they found her a single room so she could rest and not inconvenience her roommates.

Ugh!!! When I moved in with my ex It was just him. his brother and me. Well I guess the brother took me as moving in as an opportunity to move in his girlfriend too! She was so disguting! She would shower like once a week! She would never clean. She would alwyas stay in their room for some odd reason. One day that they were gone I opened their door to see what it looked like in there and
they had food and a bunch of garbage on the floor. It was soo gross!!! They would eat our food but if we ate their they would get all pissy! So glad I ended that relationship!!!

My first roommate was absolutely, hands down, completely bonkers. We lived in a very tiny dorm room, which only made the situation worse.
I went to high school with the girl; we weren't friends, but we were acquaintances. When word got around that I was planning on living with her, several people approached me to tell me that she was crazy and that I should rethink my choice. I just figured they were referring to her competitiveness--she was huge into sports and liked to win. I thought, no big deal, I don't play sports, so there wouldn't be any issues. Boy, was I wrong! Everything, I mean EVERYTHING was a competition. We ate in the dining hall every morning, and we both usually made waffles with the waffle maker. She'd look at my waffle and exclaim, "Haha Laura! My waffle looks so much better than yours does! You're actually going to eat something that looks like that?" I'd be like uh...are you really comparing our waffles? Then we'd go to the class we had together, and it was a competition to see who could walk the fastest there. Once we got to class, it was a competition to see who could log their clicker into the system first. It seemed to give her great pleasure to "beat" me at all this stuff, and honestly, who cares who turns on the clicker first, so I just went with it for the sake of our living together. The class we shared was intro chemistry, which is notoriously a tough course. Science is really my thing, so it wasn't too difficult for me. My roomie, on the other hand, had some trouble with the course. She'd ask what I made on the chem test, and I'd just say "I did better than I thought I would" or "Pretty well!" because I obviously didn't want to rub anything in. This girl also knew my lab partner, who I would freely discuss grades with, so she'd go to him to ask him what I made! He didn't know not to tell her, so she'd come back and make all these comments about how she was going to kick my ass next time around and how I better bring it. She wasn't play though. She was dead serious. And angry. She worked out hardcore 2x a day every day, and my form of exercise was walking to and from class. I've always been thin and have never had a big appetite at all. She obviously needed to eat a lot because she was so active and couldn't understand why I didn't eat that much compared to her. She started telling everyone who would listen that I was anorexic and that I had a huge problem, etc. That really bothered me... Things started getting even more strange. She was a complete slob and her half of our very small room was covered in filth. Our room actually SMELLED. She started leaving her sweaty, stinky work out clothes on the back of my chair. I'd come back and my food would be gone. Just when I thought it couldn't get much more insane...it did! We each had our own chest of drawers provided by the university. I left a jacket of mine on top of our dresser (so it definitely wasn't on her side of the room or anything). I came back to the room to put it on, and there was A BOOGER on the sleeve. I was so grossed out and gave her the benefit of a doubt because I didn't think anyone would do something that disgusting. I was like, "well, you know, maybe I sneezed and didn't remember it...well, that doesn't make any sense...but..." A few days later I left a BCBG dress hanging on the back of my closet door (again, on my side of the room). When I came home, I noticed a booger had been wiped on the zipper area of the dress. OKAY! SERIOUSLY?!? At that point, I knew it was obviously my crazy roommate's doing. I confronted her about it, and her story was that she had left the door open, and somebody walking down the hall must have come in and done it. She couldn't look me in the eye. So...you're saying it was a drive by boogering of sorts? Sure. At that point, I took the dress and showed it to my RA who said she'd talk to the roomie (I knew she never would though). I was so freaked out at that point that I just packed a bag and when to stay with my boyfriend at the time. When I came back the next day, I heard that she had been telling everyone what a slut I was for staying with him... Also, she was infatuated with my boyfriend. He stopped coming over because she'd openly flirt with him when I was right there. It made him extremely uncomfortable, and it got to the point where he was a little scared of her. A few days after the booger incidents, I opened the door to see her clipping her toenails over my open box of wheat thins. I mean, DIRECTLY over my wheat thins. She looked at me with a wide eyed "I just got caught" expression and said, "Oh, guess I should move these." I just turned around and shut the door and called my mom and said "You'll never guess what I just saw..." After I got off the phone with my mom, I went back into the room to get on the computer and submit a room transfer request. I noticed that she had placed my box of wheat thins back with my other food... It was quite an experience. |

Laura, OMG! Boogers and toenail clippings? You win! lol...
I have also had bad roommate experiences. I lived in a house with 3 girls for a year and one of the girls had was dating this guy and he like lived at our house and didn't pay a cent for anything, he even did his laundry at our house and would shower in the common bathroom! He also left dirty socks lying around. That girl moved out after a year. And then one of the other girls I lived with went crazy. We had an extra bedroom because the other girl moved out, so this girl bought three chinchillas and put them in the extra room without asking! The room was right next to mine and they are nocturnal and SMELLY messy creatures. So I heard them making all kinds of racket all night long and could smell the room when my roommate didn't clean it after so many days. The best part was when one day I went into the bathroom after just getting home. I had been out all day. When I went into the bathroom, I noticed that the seat was up and there was poop all over the seat! Like all over the seat! It was so nasty! Like many of you, I had problems with my roommates being messy and not buying supplies for the house. There was one week where we had run out of dishwasher detergent and she wouldn't go buy more. I caught her one day emptying dirty dishes out of the dishwasher! I told her they were dirty and she said she thought they were clean! It was so gross! She also never bought toilet paper. She would use paper towels from the kitchen and even cotton balls! I got so sick of her not buying toilet paper, that I had bought some that I stashed in my room for emergencies so whenever we were out, I wondered what the heck she was using to clean herself! Ugh... |

^ hey hey, chinchillas aren't smelly, unless they aren't taken care of! (but I will admit that they are nocturnal, hah).
still - i can sympathise with the noise at night. |

Ugh...I definitely feel for everyone in this thread!
I have had a few crazy roommates but nothing tops my last one. I live in a 3BR apt and have always lived with my sorority sisters. My roommate and I were having trouble finding a new roomie so when our one sister called us frantic for a place to live we were stoked. Guess no one had told us about her penchant for bringing over a new man EVERY night and NEVER cleaning up after her dog. This girl literally told us that we needed to clean up after her dog and if we didn't want him crapping and pissing everywhere then WE should take him out for walks....WTF??? So one day I am at work when I get a text from my roomie letting me know that this girl has entered my room and is now REARRANGING everything because she feels like it. Add to that the fact that she was dealing pot out of our apartment and had let one of our sisters live on our couch but was expecting that this girl (who is now one of my awesome roommates) pay her entire way in the apt....this girl was nuts! |

![]() And Laura! OMG! I know a girl who acts just like that. She's VERY competitive and I'm not at all, so she would get frustrated and do things to provoke me. We were once at a bar together and she was mad that the bar tender flirted so looked at me and started laughing maniacally as she poured her drink all over me. I just looked at her like WTF, walked away and ignored her the rest of the night. She then proceeded to spread a rumour that she accidentally spilled her drink, some of it got on me and I went psycho over it ![]() It's needless to say I'm not friends with her anymore. |

I've definitely had my share of bad roommates.
My freshman year I had a roommate that was soooo dirty. Her side of the room was basically a pile of sh*t. Dirty clothes, empty boxes of food, it just SMELLED. No one ever wanted to come in my room because it was so nasty. She also slept with a lot of guys & smoked a lot of weed. Half the time she'd be high or drunk. I eventually got rid of her and switched rooms. She wasn't as bad as what was to come... My Junior year. Wow. There was this girl, we'll call her Melissa. She was born and raised in a military lifestyle because of her stepfather. She used that as an excuse for her behavior. Her biological father lived in the town my school was in with his new wife and baby. He was also a cop. It never made sense to me as to why she didn't live with her dad...until she lived with me. We didn't have to share a room, just a bathroom. We also had 2 other roommates in 2 other bedrooms. At first, things were OK. She was 18 and thought she was invincible. "My dad is a cop, he can get me out of anything!" She's shout when she was wasted. Then things got out of hand. She had a new guy in her bedroom numerous times of the week...even during the day when everyone was trying to study. She was LOUD. The bathoom, omg it was a disaster. The shower was disgusting. The sink was nasty. The garbage was filled to the top with tampons and bloody toilet paper. It was just terrible. The icing on the cake was when we all came back from Christmas vacation, except her, of course. She denied she was in our apartment for the whole month, but infact she was. I walked in, and there was food ALL OVER the floor. I mean chunks to CHEESE...I could just SEE everything she had eatin for the past month! The crock pot sitting on the counter was filled with molded God only knows what! The dishes in the sink were growing mold....it was just sooo bad. We wrote her notes because we barely saw her. She said she worked the night shift at some local restaurant (where she would have sex in the freezer and all of us about it....lol...). She then wrote us a long note back saying that she was losing her memory, and that she is staying with her "boyfriend" (of the week) so he can help her out. That was her reason for not cleaning....memory loss at 18....lol. We eventually got her kicked out. The move out process was hilarious to watch. I think she NEVER threw garbage out and it just accumulated in her room. You couldn't even open her door, there were just piles of sh*t. I mean HUGE BAGS of garbage. Piled. Cleaning out the bathroom was terrible that I hired someone to do it. She had so much crap in one of the vanity drawers that the woman took the drawer out and dumped everything into a garbage bag. It had to weight at least 10lbs. It was filled with nailpolish, makeup, and just GARBAGE. Eventually she moved to a new building on campus. Then, about 2 nights later, after our new roommate moved in....... one of them wakes up screaming. ROACHES! HAHA she left us with roaches! And it turns out she brought them to her new building too! Lovely. =) I can probably keep adding to this...but with the roommate that replaced the dirty !@#$%^ that lived with me, she was nasty too. Not as bad, but still gross. I was just reading Fashionista_Gal's post and yes, I too wonder what this roommate used when she'd NEVER buy toilet paper and I'd stash my own in my room...lol. |
