My first boyfriends' birthday's coming up... help me with a present!

Hi!
I don't know if I put this in the right thread, so mods, feel free to replace if I didn't!

So, my first boyfriends' birthday is coming up soon! And I do not have a freaking idea what to get him. I was thinking about a nice perfume, but to be honest, I LOVE the Jean Paul Gaultier he usually wears, so I don't wan't him to change his perfume

Maybe it's a bit unpersonal to ask what to give my boyfriend - I know I have to give something really personal, but I'm really running out of idea's! His hobby's, wel actually his life, is about dancing and singing, but I couldn't think of anything that had to do with that either.

I was thinking about taking him out to dinner! That should be nice, but I would like to give him something too. Any ideas...?

(Wow, for a girl this stuff is way easier! A ring, a necklace, perfume, lingerie, it's all good! Didn't know it was so much harder for a boy.)

Yep, iPod he does have! And that's sadly a bit above my budget at this moment

But I'll check the concerts! Who knows. (The down part is that I live in the Netherlands, so the 'big' concerts are mainly in Amsterdam, only once in a while, and I do not have any transportation...)

What is your spending range?

Since it's your first time buying a gift, don't go too overboard, just keep it simple. What are his interests?

You can't go wrong with electronics and entertainment! Your first gift would be best as something fun and innocent, and not get too personal just yet. There's plenty of time for that, later.

DVDs, CDs, nice new headphones for mp3 player, something from a store you know he shops at, a Swiss Army knife, video games, some cool gadget such as a remote control helicopter (guys love that kind of stuff!), even at an older age.

You can do something such as gift him a couple of cds or dvds to open, as well as a "voucher" for a dinner from you at a new restaurant or his favorite place. Since he has an ipod already, how about some ipod accessories? The possibilities are endless with those!

I love getting itunes giftcards and since he is into music (singing and dancing) and has an iPod he probably will too!

I agree about gadgets. Guys of all ages seem to like them. I'd think about what he does daily and how a gadget fits in. I.E.- does he travel a lot- what about GPS or one of those HD radio receivers if he does not have satellite radio? Ipod credits is a good idea too. I always tend to listen to what ppl say they need or look to see what they need for gifts too.

Also, check around for dvds with music/singing. Either movies/musicals like 'Rent', if he's into that kind of stuff, or 'Spinal Tap' if he's more of a rocker, or dvds featuring his favorite bands. My boyfriend is a musician and LOVES any dvd with his favorite band in concert!!

Their shipping is pretty prompt too, from experience. Tip for sizing, buy 2 sizes larger. If your man wears M (US) snugly, get him an XXL. If he's practically swimming in the M (US) size, get him XL. Reason being these shirts are made in Hong Kong.

Otherwise, cook or bake him something. You know how men love food. As the saying goes, "the way to the man's heart is through the stomach".

If you guys have been together for a while, you can always make a little collage and put it in a frame.. My BF loved that for his bday.

I love the collage idea, but we've only been together for 3 months. That will be the day after his birthday, so I could combine those two events in some way... I'll also check what he might like electronic-wise!
