Exclamation Mother/Thanksgiving/ Crazy/Hotel Room!!
I was supposed to stay with my Mom for a week over Thanksgiving but after the last few phone calls I feel the need to stay in a hotel to maintain my sanity! Can anyone else relate?

^ I can deal with my mother (we're actually really close), but I have a HUGE extended family I don't really get along with.

I ALWAYS book a hotel room and then just tell the host at the last minute that I had a room booked, because I didn't want to inconvenience them. That way it's like you're doing it for their benefit even when it's because you can't stand them . So far I haven't offended anyone, but if it was my mom it might be different ...

Do you have siblings you can commiserate with?

No, sorry, I can't relate. I would give anything to spend a week with my mama. I miss her so much. Count your blessings that you can spend a week with her.

Funny you should ask! I'm in the same hotel as my brother because our Mom thinks he smells up her place!! I'm going to break the news to her gently and hope for the best.

I can understand wanting a hotel- when I go to stay with my parents just getting enough time in the bathroom for a shower is a hassle! It would be nice to have a place to get ready in peace :)

Yes, can totally relate, but I still have a room at my parent's with all of my own things so I can kind of get away....

This happened to me this summer...I went home for a week without my husband and I stayed with mom. I love her, she is wonderful. However, I will always stay in a hotel from now on. I felt like I was 15 again!! (Im 38!!) It was not just one thing, but a whole lot of little things that by day seven were making me crazy. I need space a few hours a day. Again, I love her...Im not being disrespectful...in fact she is staying in MY home for a week over Xmas..hell, she may even ask to stay in a hotel next time! LOL

I don't think there's anything wrong with staying at a hotel while visiting family. I'm a person who needs some quiet time and I get anxious if I'm around several people all day long--the noise, the distractions, etc.

You may have a better visit with your mom if you can leave in the evening and go to your hotel room. Some parents are really good at giving grown kids their space and others expect to be together 24/7 even when you're an adult.

Do what will give you all the best time together.

I can relate. My parents are gone now, but last time I stayed at my Dad's and his wifes', I felt like I was 10 again, and I was in my mid-40's. My father treated me like I was 10 too, depite the fact I had grown children.

Stay in the hotel. You'll appreciate the visit all the more.

it is so nice to go back to your clean quiet hotel room, you can sleep as late as you like...shower as long as you want, and watch whatever you want on TV.

have fun!
