Default Mother has kidney failure - please say a prayer for her
My mom has been diabetic since her 40's (she is 63) and last night my brother took her in to the hospital and they said she has kidney failure. I was so scared last night that I would get a phone call but thank God I didn't. I spoke to my sister this morning and a specialist will be seeing her sometime this afternoon to see just how bad her kidney's are.

I know that dialysis is an option as is kidney transplant. Anyone have experience with either one?

The worst part is that I'm in Illinois and she lives in Windsor, Canada. I'm so glad my brother and sister are there with her.

Thanks for any prayers that are offered!!!

I'm crossing my fingers for your mom. I know someone who is on dialysis and they are fine. It's time consuming but definitely worth it. Is there any way you can go visit her?

Thanks olialm1 and boxermom for the prayers and crossed fingers! Funny thing is we were just there last weekend for a visit. This was my family's first time meeting my boyfriend, and that is when she first got sick. She thought she had the flu, but now that I did some reading up on the topic, I think it was the signs of kidney failure.

Depending on how she's doing we'll be paying another visit. It's far, but not too far to drive if we need to, but I wish I were much closer so I could pay more visits.

To make matters worse today is my dad's birthday and it has been 10 years since he passed away. My worst fear was her dying on his birthday. I know I need to stay positive.

Thanks again!

Thank you ilovepinkhearts! This is our first go-around too.... but I'm hoping that the dialysis will help. Otherwise me and my siblings will have tests done to find out who is the best match for a transplant.

I've so sorry...my prayers are with you. DH's dad lived for five years after his kidney failure and would have probably lived much longer had he not refused treatment. There is hope...

I am sending positive thoughts towards you and your family.

My grandfather was on dialysis for several years... time consuming (few hours a day every day) but well worth it.

natalie78, it's good to know there is at least a little hope. Was he on dialysis and then decided he no longer wanted this treatment?? I'm just wondering what to expect for my mother.

I'm so sorry to hear about dh's father. It's so tough to lose a parent.

Thanks for the prayers as well!

Thanks so much PurseAddict79. I was wondering how long the dialysis took, but if keeps my mother around longer than you're right, it is worth it.

Thanks for the positive thoughts. We need them so much right now!!!

His dad just grew tired of everything. He was almost 80 and just ready to let go.
