Question Mistletoe Etiquette

How do you avoid those awkward moments ?

What about kissing a co-worker or colleague ?

I think a kiss on the cheek is perfectly fine.

I personally think it's inappropriate to have mistletoe at a work gathering, but if it's there, I would simply avoid walking beneath it.

i also agree that its inappropriate and akward to have such a thing in the workplace. if not tacky. i would disagree to have such thing in such a place especially when some companies are very strict about sexual harrasment and the lot

If it's at a work gathering the company or employee who brought it must be a bit off as that's just asking for a sexual harassment lawsuit!

If someone put it over me I would basically just walk away and say, "I'm married.". Even if I were single though it would bug me. Pandering for affections really turns me off.

I agree with everything you said, Syntagma. It's so...contrived, imo.

Won't even go there! Colleagues or not, it is not proper for anything related to a work place.

I agree, mistletoe has no place in the work arena, some people just take the tradition of a simple kiss to extremes. In the workplace, one should respect the two foot rule, IE, put two feet between you and a co-worker at ALL times.

Personally, if I saw a chunk of this fungus (it's a parasitic plant that grows in the wintertime on oak trees) hanging in the office/work place, I'd take it down and hide it.

Am I the only one who can't remember ever in my life even seeing mistletoe?

Just a peck on the cheek if you can't avoid it, I suppose, I'd expect that in a workplace it's been put there for a laugh rather than something to be followed through on.

Irreverent black-humoured oaf that I am, I must confess that the first thing that sprung to mind when I saw "Mistletoe Etiquette" on the threads list was "NO TONGUE!!"
