Default long distance relationships

SUCK!!!!!!!! im gonna i miss him soooo much and i cant see him because we are about 5 hours away from each other at the moment. until i go back to school in the fall. it feels weird. it feels like i cant even count these months as being together because we aren't, technically. we've both been super busy and haven't had time to see each other in almost a month, the longest we've gone. grrrrr. someone needs to invent a teleportation device. but he's coming to see me soon, i think, and then for my bday. yay...

I know, it is the worst. I date a guy who lives 4 hours from me and we used to see each other every 3 weeks and now we occassionally go months without seeing each other, I travel a lot for work and he is just super involved with his company, but when you see him it is all worth it. It can make you go crazy and during the first year I felt as though I couldn't do it and would cry all of the time. Best of luck, I know these things are not easy and require a lot of trust...I'm rooting for you, and if this helps I always go shopping when I miss him like crazy.

My hometown. Keep yourself busy. How sweet it will be once you see each other. The heart doth grow fonder.

There is hope for LD relationships! I was in a 5 year LD relationship before b/f and I finally decided to settle in NYC two years ago. We didn't even live in the same countries! First, he was in New Zealand and I was in Canada. Then he moved to Canada but was 12 hours away (driving). I moved away to college but didn't want to go to his school (now we were 10 hours apart). He then moved to NYC for grad school (2 hours plane + 2 hours drive) and I didn't move to NYC until I enrolled in grad school.

We tried to see each other once a month (but trips are costly!) and we talked to each other every night on the phone. He would send flowers and gifts on special days (like V-day and birthdays) and I would send him baked goods and cute gifts (like sending him Hershey hugs and kisses but taking out the little strips and inserting my own strips with nice comments on them). I once surprised him but that didn't work out too well (I was locked out until his roommate came home).

I always tell myself that if we can overcome this obstacle, we are building on a pretty good foundation for the future. Good luck!!!

I'm so sorry lvvuittonaddict, I definitely know how that feels. My BF and I have been together for 3 1/2 years and most of that time we've been in a long distance relationship.

I'm from Northern California and he's from Southern California. He moved up here to attend the junior college so he could have a good chance of transferring into UC Berkeley (he didn't do so hot in high school). We met during my last semester at the JC and hit it off amazingly! We dated for about 6 months, then I transferred to the University of Southern California in LA (aka where my BF is from). We didn't want to kill the great relationship we had, so we made an attempt to keep it strong over the 6 hours and 400 miles difference between us. So I spent 2 years at USC while he spent 1 more year at the the junior college, and then transferred to UC Berkeley. Then I graduated college and moved back home, and we were finally reunited! I started working in the SF Bay Area and my BF finished his final year at UC Berkeley. Now he finally graduated this summer, and he's moving back home to LA.

So now we're back to being in a long distance relationship. Aaaah, it's like we can never be together! We talk on the phone multiple times a day, and either I'll fly to LA or he'll come up here. We see each other about once a month and a half. It's not easy. Both of us have to work at it, but we still love each other very much.

But just be patient. And make sure he knows that you're always thinking about him. Occasionally, I'll mail little surprises or love notes to my boyfriend in LA, just to remind him that I love him. It's these things that constantly keep your relationship strong, at least I think so.

awww you poor thing. dont focus so much on how much long it will be until you see him. stay busy!! atleast its only 5 hours, and not an ocean or another continent away.

i know exactly how you feel. i moved 3000 miles away from my boyfriend for 6 months. its so hard to be apart!

Lvuittonaddict, keep us posted and let us know how it all works out. I have always found, even though I know it sounds super lame, that it helps to talk to other people about how your feeling. Just when I think I can't do this anymore I'll talk to a good friend and suddenly it all seems worth it. Just keep telling yourself absence makes the heart grow fonder :) Until then hang in there, I once went 4.5 months without seeing my man and, surprisingly, I survived.

I know how you feel. I've been in a long distance relationship for almost 4 years now. We used to live in the same city then I moved to a different state and we were 3 hours apart. At first I went back pretty much every weekend. Then it become once every month, then it was school breaks and holidays. This past year was the real challenge he stayed home while I went off to school in Atlanta (He's was in Missouri btw). We talked on the phone pretty much every night and texted each other nonstop. He also flew to Atlanta for Valentine's day and I flew to see him over breaks. Im back home for the summer and he just moved to Nebraska for school. So this year he'll be in Nebraska while I am in Atlanta. This year I will be flying to Nebraska for hour anniversary/his birthday. Long distance relationships are hard, but they are so worth it for the one you love!
