Default just bummed out
today is my birthday. well, for another hour and half it is still. No gift or card from my bf. My parents took me out to dinner, which was really nice to see them. Guess I'm just bummed not even a card from bf. His birthday was last week and I did all sorts of special things for him..card..gifts..went out to dinner..had fun..etc. I know its not good to expect anything back but I just needed to vent. feeling bummed.

It's true. I have the WORST luck with birthdays.

One year, my hair caught on fire when I was trying to blow out my candles. I have naturally red curly hair. It was singed Annie-fro short. I looked like Annie for a solid year... it was terrible.

My SO never really believed me about my birthday curse. This year, when I turned 25, things went so wrong... he started gagging at the restaurant! He always gags when he is nervous, so I thought he was going to propose! Turns out, he was just a Pukey McPuke Face and you can imagine how depressed I was that not only did I get my hopes up, but I had to take Pukey McPuke Face home because he thought my birthday was cursed, lol.

First off: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

I'm sorry about what happened with your boyfriend but to be honest...it's happened to me before too. With my exboyfriends AND with my husband. Some men just don't think that "regular" (ie. not 30, 40, 50) birthdays are a big deal. My husband forgot my birthday once and I wasn't really all that mad at him. I was a bit upset, yes, but I think the true matter is how he treats me throughout the year. One day isn't going to ruin that for me even if it is my birthday

Sometimes you need to speak up to get what you want. People need reminders - even boyfriends need reminders. I still don't get all the hype about birthdays? I've never understood why some people have such high expectations for them unless you are a child (literally) or celebrating a milestone birthday (like 21, 40, 50, etc.).
I can certainly understand why you are feeling bummed though since it sounded like you did some special things for his birthday. I agree that it would have been nice for him to reciprocate. Maybe you need to be more specific about what you want from him. I know that I myself am guilty of wanting my DH to read my mind instead of just communicating my wants/needs to him.
I know it takes some of the fun out of it, but if you want people acknowledge your birthday, you need to create your own hype in some ways. I think that there are lots of people out there who feel like I do - that a birthday is just a birthday and no big deal - so unless you remind them, you can't expect them to make a big deal out of it.
Anyway, happy birthday Chanel Angel! I wish it had been better for you. Maybe next year you can make it into more of what you want.

Hey, I've had an ex forget my birthday...and it's on Christmas! Not like there aren't reminders all over the frickin' place.

Anyway, have a blessed year

Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

Did he at least acknowledge it by wishing you a 'Happy Birthday'? I guess I don't see the big deal in celebrating new wrinkles I think the last time I truly celebrated a birthday, I was 18.

Happy Birthday! I'm sorry it was a bummy one :( Last year my bf picked a huuuuuge fight with me on my birthday (we almost never have big arguements, just little bickers - so why did he have to initiate a blowout on my BIRTHDAY?!!?!?!?)

My sister and I share a birthday week - which I usually love, but she usually bogarts the day, and makes the party wherever she wants it with little to no interest in my opinions... not so fun for me - sigh -

I know some people will tell you birthdays are not a big deal, but in my opinion they are and you should celebrate the people you love on their birthday - that doesn't mean huge presents or plans, but at least an acknowledgement and a hug and being nice to them! I wonder why your bf really didn't recognize it - that is a shame - I'm sorry babe.
