i don't know why I let this bother me but I can't stop thinking about it. I ran into an old friend & her mom the other day. So we were talking & out of nowhere her mom said "you're fat"...I was like what??? I was so mad but I din't show it. I'm only 105 lbs. I might be a little chubby but not FAT. the thing is that they are both overweight. for them to call me fat when they are 2x my size is unbelievable. i'm asian so all my cousins are like size 00 or xxs & are 80lbs each. so i've always been a big girl in my family. they always make fun of me. i just can't get over this weight thing. what's wrong with me?

There is NOTHING wrong with you, your friend and her mom were being very rude.
I would have reacted the exact same way. I've been told by asian people that I'm fat (5'6" 120 lbs) with a curvey small waist larger hips body type. This isn't even a matter of being blunt because it's not true, I think they're just jealous of you. Hugs. |

ITA! Seriously, calling a person 105 lbs fat is nothing but total jealousy.
Ignore them. |

Since when has 105 become CHUBBY??
Sorry...this might sound really insensitive, but if you girls think that 105 lbs is chubby, you're nuts and need help. |

Not to offend the OP but coming from an Asian culture, I can understand that the standard of what is fat/chubby can be a bit skewed. I have friends who have dealt with weight issues and they have told me that they are chubby by asian standards and thin/normal by white standards. Therefore, to some asians, 105 lbs may be chubby or fat depending on OP's height.
But in any respect, telling OP that she is point blank fat is just blame rude! |

We don't even need to see your picture to tell you: You are not fat or chubby!

thanks everyone. i don't mind being 105 at all. i eat what i want & i don't exercise (i should). i said "chubby" bcuz i am the biggest one in my family. helpchow is 100% correct. 105lbs is somehow considered chubby by asian (at least the ones i know).

Meh... I'd rather be "fat" than a delusional jackhole.
Editing to be sure you do realize that 105lbs is not fat. She is wrong. And rude. |

Why even let it affect you since they are like 2x yr size. They are probably jealous with yr weight :) So what even if u are really fat, no biggie as long as you are healthy

Holy crap....
No sweetie, there is NOTHING wrong with you. Those people are unbelievable rude. I can't even imagine how on earth anyone would think that would be appropriate to say. That's just horrible. I'm sorry she did that to you. |

Nothing's wrong with you. It's a bit hard being the "fat" one in the family (I am the fat one in my generation at 100lbs), but I shrug off most of their comments by reminding myself that older generation people tend to nitpick. If it wasn't my weight, it'd be my skin; if it wasn't my skin, it'd be something else. If she's picking on your weight when she weighs 2x what you do, it must mean that she can't find another flaw to pick on! ![]() helpchow is right: many Asians have a much more stringent standard of what is "fat". I get the same thing from everyone when I go back to Asia to see relatives.

I don't think anyone who's 105 is fat btw. But for people who don't understand the culture, older Asian women tend to be VERY blunt. It's not meant to be hurtful or rude. |
