Thanks mombug. Great advice. I know what you mean. I used to think 27 was super old. I had a friend that was 27 & I was only 16. I thought she was so old. Well, now I'm 28 & my little niece thinks I'm SUPER old. LOL

I don't think anyone who's 105 is fat btw. But for people who don't understand the culture, older Asian women tend to be VERY blunt. It's not meant to be hurtful or rude.
Yep, it's a very asian statement to make but I have to disagree, just because you're an older asian lady doesn't mean you have to be rude about it. Some asian parents don't know their boundaries or don't care if they hurt people's feelings.

lmao don't worry about it. Don't let it get to you. One day maybe for fun invite your Asian friends to play wii fit. The ones your relatives may consider "normal"...step on and...BMI = 15.6 or something...now Wii will tell you it's super underweight. I step on and it was BMI 20 and they were like, what? You're not overweight? yea....how screwed up is that...

Someone that would call a person, that is 105 lbs fat is dumb. Plus I hate everyone being the judge of other peoples weight. You are not chubby... and it is only up to you to judge what you should look like..

I am going to get stones thrwon at me by playing devils advocate yet again.

I also come from a different countries and am quite heavier than most girls. Going back home i was called fat ( which i was) to my face several times, which hurt but that's just they way they operate in general.

In the Western world people in general tend to sugarcoat things and be extremely PC while were ic ome from, people are brutally honest and unapologetic for it.

you said they called you fat at 105? that is skinny by us standards (most of the US is overweight) but maybe they are comparing you to girls of your culture and maybe you a re larger than them (which doesn't make you fat) but can explain why the used that term?

The most important thing is that you are happy with your body, if you are not tone up and do it for you 9 not because of remarks) or just smile and joke about it with them (yeah I am such a whale, I am going on a diet ASAP).

While I do agree with you that Western cultures are more PC and polite when it comes to disclosing and expressing their opinion, I have to disagree with the statement pertaining to your reasoning of why the person might have called OP fat. Yes, the only reason why a 105lbs girl would be considered fat is because she is being compared to a girl who is severely underweight. I went to Taiwan last summer, and a lot of the girls are sickly skinny there. Yes, it is true that the Asian standard of being skinny is intensely skewed IMO (in some Asian countries anyway). I'm sorry, I wouldn't like to be compared to an unhealthy skinny girl because then you are teaching me that being skinny and unhealthy is better than being healthy but weighing more. Hence, most of the time, these "fat" statements are completely uncalled for and unnecessary. OP didn't ask for that person's opinion on her weight anyway, that woman should have kept her thoughts and opinions to herself.

Frankly, I would choose having curves and the chest to fill in my clothes than being a stick with no womanly curves any day of the week.

I am not saying that they were not to called her fat but if most of the girl were underweight and she was at a comparibly healthy weight, it could explain why they called her fat.

It has nothing to do with if the Op is actually fat. Like if everyone is 300lbs and someone who is 200lbs comes in town, that person will be called skinny, smaller than the norm.

And I don;t think it's fair to assume that all of the smaller girls back home are unhealthy. Lifestyle is different to that of the US (well for my country it is) and many girls are a size 2 w/o even trying. People walk EVERYWHERE and processed food is considered a luxury. That plus a young girls metabolism could explain why many are underweight.

It's awful when someone you know (relative or not) comments on how much you weigh and how "fat" you are. As other posters have stated - it is pretty common in Asian cultures. I take a size 0 or 2 (in some other brands could be xxs) and I've been called by my relatives (young and old) as the obese or fat one in pictures. One time, one of my mom's friends saw me and told me that I would look better if I lose 10 lbs at least. At least she didn't show me the way to the gym - one of my Asian friends got that!!! The funny thing is no one thinks you're ever too skinny - skinny is never skinny enough.

You are not fat at all. However, I am a fat asian, for real. All asian women are not tiny.

Muscle really does weigh that much. A somewhat thin person may actually gain weight b/c muscle has more mass than fat. IMO, it's better to focus on how you look and how clothes fit than a number on the scale.

I'd happily gain 15lbs if it meant that I was completely toned. Of course, that means that I'd have to actually exercise.

^That is true - unfortunately most Asian parents/relatives/strangers/friends don't consider muscle mass or a toned body very attractive. It just has to be skinny. When I was younger I used to work out at the gym like mad and weighed my heaviest at 117 lbs due to muscle mass. I got a lot of comments on how big I was and how "unhealthy" it is to be that big but I was thinking how odd since I might be heavier and look heavier but I certainly felt healthier.

Now I'm just too lazy to work out at all and canceled my gym membership...
