Default How many of you are/have tried online dating sites? share your experience !

just because or words of wisdom !
I have the friend who has tried and met almost directly a serious great catch (she´s now pregnant !), the friend who met guys who only wanted to test their seduction power or very non attractive guys, the friend who meets lyers but ends up with sex and b**ty calls (yeah my friends are the likes of Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha from SATC).

I have a profile and been communicating with few guys, it goes from the guy with no education who fix up machines but is so good looking and nice, to the gentleman with education, well spoken, good culture, but not physically attractive, to the OK to look at, good job but boring in the emails...to the high class pilot (who might be too much for me!) and the highly seductive italian chef-cook.....
I have put certain criterias and I feel if I make them even more strict I might just miss it.

I really don´t know if I should just try a date with them all ! (But I am freaking out about protecting my identity etc...I live in a small town, they are from different places within 150km) <-I feel that smiley was made for me lol

I need women who have gone through the same dilemnas !!

Actually, some would´d contact me were so depressingly bad it made me be more confident and flirty IRL, bc "otherwise you´ll be stuck with the internet guys lol"......surprisingly great responses so far !!!...even if they´re younger and I´d STILL have to make the 1st move (it´s the local culture..)

It's funny (or is it sad? I don't know anymore) - I think it's such a hot topic nowadays that we should have a sticky or a special section on this topic - what do you think, Vlad? with specialists (like Hubba) giving advices and all
And it's also funny because your list looks so much like mine : the cook, the pilot, the tech guy...well at least it keeps me entertained (and away from bags) if nothing else...

After much hemming and hawing I tried it for the first time about 3 years ago. I have a group of friends who have done it as well (we call ourselves Sex and the Suburbs, LOL).

I had a lot of interesting dates and "one date wonders," where I really did like the guy but never heard from him again. Oh well! It's a good test of your ego that's for sure.

So, I just didn't take it that seriously. I did have one really weird experience with a guy who just came on way too strong and lived about 50 miles away and it's hard to explain but it was just too intense. And when I called it off he started emailing and sending me cards in the snail mail...and then at one point said he was going to drive up and meet me at x restaurant (right near my house) on x day at x time. I freaked out and stayed with a GF for a couple days.

But...that weird guy really was a one-off. My last BF and I were together almost two years (we met online) and the guy I'm currently seeing I met online as well.

Have any of you encountered the Salesman Phenomenon? It seems like almost every guy that ever responded to me was a sales man of some type. And these guys are slimy liars!!!! Ugh! Bad, bad online experiences. It feels too forced when you meet men online. I'm never doing it again.

I did it years ago and it was the most HILARIOUS thing ever. I wish I would have kept a journal during those days as it would have been a best selling novel. I think things have changed alot in this day and age and I have to believe the matching up process has to be much better. Great memories even thinking about that time really...its was a damn comedy show.

My dad is currently on a dating site. I'm not sure if you would want to hear my gripes about it. To me, it's just very misleading. He has met a few nice/interesting/crazy women, however hasn't had much in common with them & is still looking after being on the site for 2+ years.

You know what the first guy I met online wanted to know before anything else? What my star sign was. When I asked him why he said he had to make sure our horoscopes were compatible before proceeding any further....

I've done it and have friends who are on every dating site under the sun. One guy I went out with was a complete jerk. He made fun of gay people, Jewish people, mentally challenged people. I had to get up and leave. He was making me sick. I've gone out with nice guys too. I think it opens a lot of doors and allows you to "approach" people without a fear of rejection. Just be careful when doing this- do not let guys pick you up at home. My best friend was raped by a guy who she met. Unfortunately, she let him pick her up at home. Of course, this can happen with any guy regardless of how you meet them.

^^ very good advice, cg! Always meet the guy somewhere on the first few dates and don't let them know too specifically where you live.

Even with the guy I'm currently seeing, I had no reason to doubt him but I DID have a friend do a background check on him before I went hiking with him last fall! You just can't be too careful. For me, I really wanted to know for sure that he truly was divorced as he said he was.

OMG I am so sorry, that´s horrible.

I was planning on maybe not even meeting in my town.
Funny you say "without the fear of rejection" to me it´s stronger there than IRL. Maybe bc first time you meet it´s actually a date (even casual).

Well, I guess a lot of people believe in this, bc the site I am on you have your star sign on your profile !
I don´t know what to think of sign compatibility, but I believe a little in personality description, like most of my friends are Designers/artistic persons. These people all happen to be Pisces, the creative/dreamy sign !
