Isn't it funny how points of view can change with the right one. I'm pretty much right there with you on not needing to get married as I am 100% committed to my SO. Congratulations on your engagement. My DH & I got married 9 days after we got engaged! We shocked ourselves by planning a small wedding in that amount of time. (and our DD#1 arrived 29 days later)

Of course you are scared, you're normal! lol Shoot, my SO and I have been together for so long and I know I'd be normal.

I think you asking him just says it all, what an exciting time. Enjoy it all, especially those butterflies my friend.

..... oh, and the ring I've been thinking more and more it might feel pretty darn good.

Congratulations! You rock for switching things up and being the one to propose.

In high school I had a drama teacher who told us the story of how she proposed to her husband: they were dancing in a night club and she leaned over and said, 'So when are you going to make an honest woman of me?'. I LOVE that story and always thought I'd like to be like that and be the one to propose.
