Angry Even the best husbands, sometimes take us for granted

So, just a little vent...because I do have a wonderful DH just took wonderful care of himself and our 2 boys for over 2 months while I was out of state taking care of my mom....

but still, a little appreciation would be nice .

So DH brought home the end of year P/L statements for the 2 family companies he runs and the taxes (they are under the same incorporation) last week...he wanted me to go over them, 'something just doesn't feel right' ....needless to say, I am just not up to it right away...finally yesterday he calls from work (I hate how he calls from work, because he feels guilty asking), 'Can you please look them over today'..keep in mind he has an a regular bookeeper who does the P/L and general ledgers and a CPA who reviews everything and does the taxes...what he expects me to find that they have not, I don't know...

So, I start... now I am not an accountant, nor do I work there (even though he wants me to start...but that's another story), so wading through them is a headache, but I know enough to start picking through this and that, it becomes clear he hasn't given me all I need, all day back and forth with the bookeeper, asking her questions, trying to get info from him (he actually yells at me at one point, 'talk to the bookeeper, don't drag me into the middle of this' )

Finally, at the end of the day, I am so excited..I have found a few minor errors...but I have found the big problem, a $105,000 data entry error in inventory (now they have almost a 2 mil dollar inventory, so it is not quick to find, nor that obvious), but still it is a big enough error to save him about $30,000 in taxes...plus because it is year end inventory, which of course will mess up next years inventory...

I am so proud when I show him....all he says is...'I knew there was something wrong, pretty smart of me to not send them in!' No thanks, or good job...when I push him a bit...'well, I was the one who found it.'... he just shrugged and said, 'yeah, that's why I wanted you to look, I knew you would figure it out."

LOL! I feel you!

But won't that be a man's way of saying only YOU can do it??? I know that is how my own hubby "puts it" as a term of saying how he needs me around for my efficiency.

I did? You must have a great memory....I don't remember that....although he is big on flowers...not sure any are coming this time....I don't think he even realizes he did somehing wrong....I know part of him thinks if I was working there, I would have caught it sooner.

yeah I think you had leg in cast or an injury anyway and he got you to run around and do the errands or a party? and then he apologized...do you have an option to sit down and just gently tell him thats no way to go?

Wow, you ARE good...that must have been last memorial day weekend...that's when I broke my ankle (again).

I am waiting to see what he does tonight when he comes home...hopefully, either the light bulb will come on by itself...or once he talks to the CPA about redoing the taxes it will sink in.

My DH does this too. I tell him I feel like his secretary. He doesn't even send emails of more than one sentence out anymore without me proofing them. He doesn't usually thank me for doing it; like you were saying, it's more of a "I knew you'd make it sound better" which I guess is thank you in guy talk. But he DOES tell our friends and families that I make him look a lot better when I rewrite his letters and emails before he sends them. Sort of a roundabout compliment, huh?

One of these days, I'll treat myself to a Christmas bonus for all the work I do for him!

You're the bomb, Mary! All I can say is men can be just plain full of themselves. I remember that thread too and you posted a pic of the flowers. I'm betting he'll come to his senses and give you credit (lots of it!)

Men... sometimes we aren't the smartest creatures...

But look at this way... he trusts YOU to look at those papers... and by displaying that trust, he is saying the biggest thank you that he ever could!

lol... trying to help out a fellow guy!

GREAT JOB THOUGH ON THOSE THE PAPERS!!!!

Good thing you caught it!!

But that was a huge thing to overlook...even with a big inventory overhead, you should look into who and what resulted in such an error...was it just a wrong number entered into the computer books and no one noticed it until now? You should look into it in detail!

We run a business and this would be very, very upsetting and disturbing. I would be pretty concerned.....your husband took it well.
