We've known each other since elementary school, but were never in the same social circles. We didn't hit each other's radar until we were in our mid-20s. We dated long distance for 4 years, he officially popped the question on Leap Day this year, and we're tying the knot this July!

Short engagement because I figured we've known each other long enough, and dated long enough, and I wanted some time as husband/wife before we start having kids. (We're both 30.)

I think any engagement over a year is too long.

We knew each other 4 years as co-workers before we dated.
We dated for 11 months before we got engaged.
We were engaged 7 months before we got married - I was 31, he was 42.
We've been married 4 years.

DH and I dated for one year (well, not a typical dating scene as he was in Iraq the whole time and I was home and in college). So I should say...I waited for DH for a year, when he got off active duty and came home to Oregon, he proposed. I was 20 when we met, he was 22...with birthdays shortly after. We were engaged for two years, in which time we lived together and all that stuff, then we got married (I being 23 and he being 25), and on the 23rd of June this year celebrated our first anniversary of marriage. (not a typical celebration as he's down in Texas learning how to be an Army medic, and I was on annual training with my unit...and coincidentally he left to go to the field on our anniversary and wasn't allowed to take electronic devices with him).

All told, I think we've had a typical Army relationship with a lot of time apart, and a lot of love and passion that follows us wherever we are.

My DF and I have been together for 3 1/2 years (I'm 25, he's 27). We will be moving in together at the end of August, then we don't plan on getting married until November 2010. We wanted enough time to be together and not have to rush planning, but not too much time, that fam and friends were questioning "why did they even get engaged, if the wedding is so far away?" KWIM?

i'm 22 now and have been with my boyfriend for 3.5 years, and we don't plan on getting engaged for at LEAST another year. we both need to start real jobs & to save money to be able to get a place together. i hope to be married by 26 (so at that time we will have been together EIGHT years before marrying). i'm suprised at the early marriage ages of some people here! not that it's a bad thing- i'm just suprised! the people i know usually don't marry until in their mid-20's so that they can build up their careers and save money! now i want to be engaged NOW, lol

DH and I were together for less than a year but we were friends first. Got engaged and married 9 days after he proposed. Had DD#1 almost a month later and I was 25 when I got married.

DH and I were together for over 5 years when we got engaged. We had lived together for 4 of them. I was previously married, he had never been married. We got married 6 weeks after he proposed (we worked around his sister and brother-in-law's schedule, since they would have to come from Australia), so we really had to hustle with the planning. We were married May 3rd and I am 32, he will be 45 in December.
