I have the Nikki with the old hardware and my friend just bought the Nikke with the new hardware. I LOVE the new hardware. Her bag looks a lot more expensive than mine. It just adds something to the bag. I want to buy a new Nikki now

NEW hardware ALL the way

Let's see some Silver HW too on some of these gorgeous bags...like the Nikki in Seagreen...I think this combo would be the BOMB!!!

For me, it really depends on the bag. For the bags with polished leather and a structured shape, the new hardware seems to be a natural addition (Like the Stone MAM) On bags that have the soft, buttery leather that have very little structure and are very slouchy, the older brass hardware seems to go with it perfectly and gives an overall beautifully vintage vibe.

So bottom line is that I like both!~

I prefer the old hardware. It is simple and understated and doesn't stand out at you like a sore thumb. The fact that I am not a big fan of gold, is probably the biggest reason I am not a fan of the newer hardware. I prefer silver hardware, period. But I do think that some of the bags look nice with the older muted brass.

i didn't see a dedicated thread about this but if it has been posted before, please forgive me.

there has been sooooooo much talk about old / new / mixed hardware that i am starting to get really confused! especially when it comes to the special order threads and a lot of the new gals keep saying "new HW" but they mean "mixed HW" because it's the NEW NEW hw.

i understand OLD HW and NEW HW but i don't understand MIXED HW!

isn't the only difference between MIXED HW and OLD HW the zipper pulls and tassel locations? i.e., my understanding of MIXED HW is that there are Signature Zipper Pulls as seen on the current New HW bags, but there are short tassels, and the side HW is the OLD STYLE dogclip HW but in light gold or silver, not brass?

i get the technical difference between what designers typically call "new" hardware (i.e., shiny spankin' new) and "old" (tarnished) but we in the RM forum have a slightly different take because of the variations that have come out in the past year alone.

can someone who is an expert on this please help?? thx!!!!

I'm only going based on pics, but it looks to me that the "new" mixed hardware involves an incorporation of brighter gold and silver hardware. It seems like the signature, light gold hardware was a compromise of both gold and silver, and now we have both separately.

this1chick- you are absolutely correct.. doesn't seem like you are confused at all. It's not that hard to grasp if you just look at a couple of pictures. There is OLD hardware, there NEW hardware and now there will be MIXED hardware which is exactly as described (It's a MIX of old & new hardware)..

I'll post some pictures again but there are pictures of this all over the board...

Ok.. my first picture is a Navy Luxe Nikki with "NEW" hardware and a Wine Nikki with "OLD" hardware. Got it?

Ok, now go to this Luna Boston link to view a Nikki with new "MIXED" hardware (sorry but I can't get the photo to upload.. maybe someone else can help get these photos all together).. notice how the "MIXED" hardware still has signature studs?? And still has the classy sleek design on the new hardware but with the old classic dog leash clip from the old hardware?? It's a MIX.

Ok, now you'll find a Hazelnut MAM with "NEW" hardware and a Glazed Espresso MAM with "OLD" hardware.. and below that you'll see a picture of a MAM with the new "MIXED" hardware..

Now look at the "MIXED" hardware MAM .. Notice that it still has the zipper pull but it also has tassels too? The tassels on the "MIXED" hardware are shorter than the tassels on the "OLD" hardware.. The new "MIXED" MAM also has the old classic dog leash clips on the side just like the "OLD" hardware..
